Falklands, construction of a new HMS Sheffield, a state of the art Type 26 Frigate

Construction has begun on the Royal Navy's latest Type 26 frigate, HMS Sheffield, with the first steel being cut in a ceremony in Glasgow. The official beginning of construction was marked by an event attended by Defense Procurement Minister Maria Eagle.

HMS Sheffield Memorial unveiled at National Memorial Arboretum

Survivors, the families of those lost and VIPs have gathered 40 years to the day since HMS Sheffield was struck by an Exocet missile during the Falklands War on 4th May 1982. They watched as a new memorial - dedicated to those killed in the attack - was unveiled at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

Argentine Ministry posted an image of a British vessel on ARA General Belgrano's sinking memorial in Falklands War

Last Monday was the 40th anniversary of the sinking of the ship ARA General Belgrano, one of the flagships of the Argentine Navy after being hit by torpedoes from the British submarine Conqueror during the Falklands War. As part of the tributes for the more than 300 Argentine sailors who died in that attack, the Argentine Ministry of Education wanted to honor the anniversary on social media. However, it ended in an embarrassment.

The city of Sheffield has come together to mark the 40th Anniversary of HMS Sheffield's sinking during the Falklands conflict. HMS Sheffield was struck by an Argentine missile on 4 May 1982 before sinking six days later on 10 May.

Argentine Federal Court upholds Stanley landing ship must not be scrapped

A Bahía Blanca Federal Court of Appeals has upheld a judicial ruling whereby the decommissioned destroyer ARA Santísima Trinidad which took part in the Apr. 2, 1982 landing at Port Stanley, can not be sold as scrap metal, despite its current state of deterioration.

UK Defence Minister Stuart Andrew has announced the name of a future world-beating British warship as HMS Sheffield. Built on centuries of history, the state-of-the-art submarine hunter will be the fourth ship to carry the name and will be Britain’s fifth state-of-the-art Type 26 frigate.
