The crew of HMS Montrose have spent the end of Christmas week on the remote Pacific Easter Island – famous for its huge stone statues. It’s thought to be the first time this century a British warship has visited the Chilean territory, which is about the size of Sheffield – but home to fewer than 8,000 people.
The United Kingdom Ministry of Justice, the British-Chilean Chamber of Commerce and the British Embassy in Santiago organized a visit to Chile of UK legal professionals. The delegation of experts in maritime law visited Chile in late November to join HRH Princess Anne, who travelled to the country to join the celebrations of the Chilean Navy’s 200th anniversary.
HRH Princess Anne attended a reception on Wednesday evening onboard the RMS St Helena, moored next to HMS Belfast in The Pool of London. RMS St Helena is one of the world's last working Royal Mail ships and is visiting London as part of her farewell tour.
Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal paid her first visit to the Falkland Islands since 2009 this month as she passed through en route to her first official visit to South Georgia. Princess Anne is the Royal Patron of the South Georgia Heritage Trust.
