  Falklands: Unexploded landmine disposed of at Yorke Bay, close to Stanley

  

  The Falkland Islands government has confirmed that overnight on Monday 16 August, the Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the Joint Operations Command Centre at Mount Pleasant Complex was contacted by the Royal Falkland Islands Police (RFIP) regarding possible unexploded ordnance at Yorke Bay.

  The United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization, C24, addressed on Thursday the annual Falklands/Malvinas sovereignty question, which once again concluded with an appeal to the governments of Argentina and Britain to resume dialogue with the purpose of finding, in the shortest time possible, a peaceful solution to the controversy.

  Today the Falkland Islands made a heartfelt and very human entreaty to the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24). Chair of the Legislative Assembly, MLA Mark Pollard and Deputy Chair MLA Leona Roberts both stood before members of the committee and each delivered an ardent and sincere speech, which spoke of their personal histories as well as their hopes for the future of their children and the Falkland Islands as a whole.

  Falkland Islands Government publishes legal framework for Environment Trust

  

  The Falkland Islands Government this week published the legal framework to establish the Falkland Islands Environment Trust: a mechanism designed to collect funds and award grants to support persons engaged in “conservation, management, and enhancement of the environment.”

  Falklands receives first batch of 3,000 doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine

  

  The Falkland Islands Government has welcomed the delivery of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine on Monday 1 February 2021. Upon arrival the vaccines were carefully offloaded from the South Atlantic Airbridge and were transported by road to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where they were immediately taken to refrigeration units within the hospital.
