  The Falkland Islands government, FIG, has established a vaccination planning group, although there is not a delivery date for the Covid 19 doses to be sent from the United Kingdom.

  A new home for the Falkland Islands Maritime Authority

  

  From Tuesday 1 December 2020 the Falkland Islands Maritime Authority will sit within the Directorate of Emergency Services and Island Security (DESIS). For over 30 years the Directorate of Natural Resources (formally Fisheries) was the home of the maritime function. However, in recent years, the government has been working towards meeting both its national and international obligations, leading to the establishment of the Maritime Authority in 2018.

  Falkland Islands celebrate becoming mine-free after almost 40 years

  

  Today 14 November 2020. the Falkland Islands have been officially declared mine-free, almost 40 years after the end of the Falkland Islands war. The minefield danger signs and fences that were once the hallmark of the invasion have all finally been removed, and the community is again free to enjoy some of the Islands’ most beautiful areas which have been off-limits since 1982.

  Doha Agreement on greenhouse gases extended to the Falklands

  

  The Falkland Islands Government received official confirmation from the UK Government at the end of August, that the Foreign Secretary had agreed on the extension of the Doha Amendment to the Falkland Islands.

  Falklands presents “State of Environment 2020” report

  

  The Falkland Islands Government has released of the ‘State of Environment 2020’ report. The publication combines environmental facts and figures to provide a summary of the overall state of the Falkland Islands' natural environment towards the end of 2019.

  Funds for the Falkland Islands Museum and for paving an MPA road tract

  

  Falkland Islands members of the elected Legislative Assembly have approved financial support for the Falkland Islands Museum and National Trust to bring forward the build program for the Lookout Gallery and Exhibition Hall.

  Falklands reports first Covid 19 positive result: MPA member with no ventilator and in stable condition

  

  The Falkland Islands government announced on Friday the first positive result of the Covid 19 virus. The case was confirmed following the reception of virus results returned from the UK, via the Airbridge.

  CPC/CPA conference opened in Uganda; Falklands' delegation attending

  

  The Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) has kicked off Monday morning at the Speke Resort Munyonyo. Uganda, with closed meetings of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) regional secretaries. A delegation from the Falkland Islands is attending the meeting.

  Falklands permanent flagpole at Portsmouth harbour

  

  Falkland Islands lawmakers MLAs Mark Pollard, Leona Roberts and Roger Spink on 24th May visited Portsmouth to present a ceremonial Falkland Islands flag and plaque to the City of Portsmouth and its veterans; to be flown at the Falklands Memorial by the Square Tower, on the iconic Portsmouth harbour.
