The Falkland Islands government, FIG, has established a vaccination planning group, although there is not a delivery date for the Covid 19 doses to be sent from the United Kingdom.
From Tuesday 1 December 2020 the Falkland Islands Maritime Authority will sit within the Directorate of Emergency Services and Island Security (DESIS). For over 30 years the Directorate of Natural Resources (formally Fisheries) was the home of the maritime function. However, in recent years, the government has been working towards meeting both its national and international obligations, leading to the establishment of the Maritime Authority in 2018.
Today 14 November 2020. the Falkland Islands have been officially declared mine-free, almost 40 years after the end of the Falkland Islands war. Falkland Islands lawmakers MLAs Mark Pollard, Leona Roberts and Roger Spink on 24th May visited Portsmouth to present a ceremonial Falkland Islands flag and plaque to the City of Portsmouth and its veterans; to be flown at the Falklands Memorial by the Square Tower, on the iconic Portsmouth harbour.
