  US Treasury Secretary on advisory visit to Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico

  

  U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew will urge his counterparts in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico to press ahead with economic and fiscal reforms aimed at restoring or strengthening growth, a senior Treasury official said on Friday. Lew will be visiting the four largest Latin American economies this week beginning with Argentina on Monday, recognizing efforts by President Mauricio Macri to reintegrate Argentina into the global economy.

  US becomes a net natural gas exporter for a week with a shipment to Brazil

  

  United States turned into a net natural gas exporter for a week after the first liquefied natural gas export from Cheniere Energy Inc's Sabine Pass terminal in Louisiana left for Brazil. The United States however is not expected to become a net exporter of gas on an annual basis until 2017 after more pipelines to Mexico and LNG export terminals enter service, according to federal energy estimates.

  Mexico ready to purchase Guyana rice following Venezuela's refusal to renew exchange accord

  

  The Guyana government says Mexico has indicated a willingness to fast track an agreement to purchase paddy rice from the Caribbean country. A statement released by the Office of Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo said that Mexico’s Agriculture Minister Jose Calzada has given the assurance that he would fast track arrangements to buy Guyana’s paddy.

  Latin America forecasted to contract 0.3% this year and 0.7% growth in 2016

  

  The United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, ECLAC, forecasted a downward trend in the region’s economic activity for 2015 to -0.3% from 0.5%, and estimates that for 2016 growth will be close to 0.7%.
