  Falkland Islands Assembly Member removed from Tourism portfolio

  

  In a move signalling some disquiet in the Falkland Islands’ Legislative Assembly, three-quarters of the elected members decide to remove the Hon Emma Edwards as the Tourism Representative. The portfolio was transferred to MLA Mike Summers who is currently overseas.

  Blockaded by Argentina, Falkland’ plans to grow its own vegetables and eggs

  

  A quarter of million pounds (approximately 400.000 dollars) is to be used to produce more fruit, vegetables, salad and hen eggs within the Falkland Islands. The Executive Council (ExCo) agreed the funding which is to be administered by the Development Corporation (FIDC) in a bid to reduce the amount of imports into the Islands.

  Five Falklands’ athletes to compete at Commonwealth Youth Games

  

  The Falkland Islands will be represented with five athletes and four officials in the 4th Commonwealth Youth Games begin to be held in the Isle of Man September 8th to 12th 2011. The delegation will be headed by Falkland Islands Overseas Games Association, (FIOGA) chair Mike Summers.

  Summers wins Falklands MLA seat: favours strong response to Argentina and north-south links

  

  Former member of the Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly, Mike Summers has been voted back into the government by a substantial margin. Voting took place in Stanley on Thursday in a by-election, which saw 51% of the electorate going to the polls.

  Falkland Islands competitors and delegates, with patience and persistence, finally managed to skip the volcanic ash cloud and are on their way to the Isle of Wight for the NatWest Island Games which open next Saturday.

  Falklands ‘invasion broadcaster’ short listed for Commonwealth Sports award

  

  Falklands’ news casting veteran Patrick Watts, known for his manning of the radio station during the Argentine invasion in April 1982, and an active promoter of the Islands worldwide, is on the shortlist for a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 29th Annual Commonwealth Sports Awards.
