Argentine authorities confirmed Wednesday that 21 nationals of the South American country were among the hostages held by the pro-Palestine terrorist group Hamas in addition to the 9 fatalities since the Oct. 7 attacks against Israel, it was reported in Buenos Aires. The hostages, whose identities were not released for security reasons, are presumably somewhere in the Gaza Strip, it was also explained.
An Arab ministerial delegation plans to travel to Brazil in January to convince the incoming Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, not to relocate his country’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, an official Palestinian source said on Thursday. Bolsonaro announced in November that he intends to relocate the Brazilian Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has left on a historic six-day trip to Brazil, the first ever visit the largest Latin American country made by a sitting premier of the Jewish state. Besides boosting diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries, Netanyahu is scheduled to hold a one-to-one meeting with president-elect Jair Bolsonaro this Friday in Rio de Janeiro.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has confirmed that his government will recognize West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. However, he said Australia's embassy would not move from Tel Aviv, until a peace settlement was achieved. He added Australia also recognized the aspirations of the Palestinians to a state with a capital in East Jerusalem.
