  Refurbished HMS York scheduled to arrive in the Falklands mid March

  

  The Royal Navy HMS York based in Portsmouth is on her way to the South Atlantic to conduct maritime security patrols. The refurbished Type 42 destroyer will spend the majority of the five-month deployment patrolling the British South Atlantic islands including the Falklands and South Georgia.

  Spectacular flypast marks retirement of iconic Falklands’ war veteran Harriers

  

  Britain paid tribute Wednesday to a joint force of Royal Navy and RAF Harrier aircraft with a spectacular flypast to mark their retirement after 41 years of service. A formation of 16 Harriers that became famous during the Falklands’ conflict, took off from RAF Cottesmore into the skies of Lincolnshire.

  The Royal Navy deep water survey ship HMS Scott deployed to the Antarctic early morning Thursday from Plymouth, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of Captain Scott's final expedition to the area.

  Final journey for a HMS Ark Royal formation of Harrier jump jets

  

  A formation of Harrier jump jets has made their final journey from HMS Ark Royal - the last such flight from a UK aircraft carrier for about 10 years. The four GR9 jets marked the end of an era when they roared off the deck near North Shields, North Tyneside. Both the Ark Royal and the Harriers are being scrapped under cost-saving plans.

  Upgraded HMS Edinburgh joins the fleet after £ 17.5 million refit

  

  A ceremony marking HMS Edinburgh’s return to the fleet after a £17.5m upgrade took place at Portsmouth Naval Base last week. The Portsmouth-based Type 42 destroyer - which was out of action for 18 months for the refit - was “re-Christened” in a colorful re-dedication ceremony in front of hundreds of guests.

  The Royal Navy flagship HMS Ark Royal, which was axed as part of the defence review, set sail yesterday for a farewell tour. The aircraft carrier is to be retired three years early as part of cost-cutting measures announced by the British Government last month.

  Falklands government “satisfied and grateful” for UK level of defence

  

  The Falkland Islands government said Wednesday in an official statement that it is “satisfied and grateful for the levels of defence on the Islands”.
  The statement follows claims to the contrary from retired Royal Navy chiefs who argue the latest defence cuts make the Falkland Islands vulnerable to attack from Argentina.
