  Thatcher’s pays tribute to admiral who persuaded her to send Task Force to the Falklands

  

  Former Prime Minister Lady Thatcher has paid tribute to one of the Royal Navy's most senior commanders during the 1982 Falklands conflict following his death. Former Admiral of the Fleet, Sir Henry Leach, died on Tuesday aged 87.

  The Lynx Mk3 takes off from HMS Ocean for the last time

  

  After more than 30 years’ service one of the mainstays of Britain’s Fleet Air Arm, including the Ice Patrol, has made its final appearance at sea, reports the Royal Navy. Nearly four decades to the day that the very first Lynx helicopter took to the skies, a Mk3 variant lifted off from the sprawling flight deck of HMS Ocean.

  Three year contract for the new Ice patrol HMS Protector to replace the Red Plum

  

  The Royal Navy will have a new ‘Protector’ of British interests in Antarctica. HMS Protector, upholding the famous name of the 1950s and 60s Antarctic survey vessel, is being loaned on a three-year trial with the Fleet while the long-term future of the Antarctic Patrol vessel HMS Endurance is considered.

  HMS Scott spent weeks in Antarctic seas mapping for cruise vessels’ safety

  

  The Royal Navy hydrographic survey ship HMS Scott is returning to Davenport Sunday April 10 after completing her second deployment to Antarctica. During the 22,500-mile journey she has been working on behalf of the British Foreign Commonwealth Office, British Antarctic Survey & United Kingdom Hydrographic Office.

  Royal Navy former flagship HMS Ark Royal up for sale on MoD website

  

  British aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal is up for sale on the Ministry of Defence's auction website. The Royal Navy's former flagship was decommissioned two weeks ago after 25 years in service as part of the government's defence budget review.

  HMS Gloucester returns to Portsmouth from Falklands on her final homecoming

  

  HRH The Duchess of Gloucester joined Type-42 destroyer HMS Gloucester as she sailed back into Portsmouth Friday from her seven-month deployment to the South Atlantic patrolling Falklands and South Georgia Island waters.

  Falkland Islands next stop for HMS York after relief work in Libya

  

  HMS York is back in the Atlantic heading for the Falkland Islands after her headline-making trip to Libya.
  The Type 42 destroyer was en-route to take up a five-month patrol in the south Atlantic when she was diverted to join the international relief effort and help foreign citizens and Britons leave the country.

  HMS Liverpool, veteran of the Falklands conflict to be decommissioned 2012

  

  HMS Liverpool set sail out of the Mersey city for the last time as her four-day ceremonial visit drew to a close. The Type 42 Destroyer, built by Cammell Laird, was heading north for operational sea training before going on an active deployment in the Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf later in the year.

  The Royal Navy ocean survey ship HMS Scott has returned to Antarctica for Ice patrol duties that include scientific research in coordination with the UK Hydrographic Office and the British Antarctic Survey.
