The three services of the Argentine Armed Forces, together with private sector companies have finished upgrading landing facilities at the Antarctic base of Petrel in the Antarctic Peninsula. Accordingly during the month of June a first medium sized aircraft, Saab 340 from the Argentine Air Force landed successfully at the new landing strip.
An Argentine Air Force (FAA) Saab 340 turboprop twin-engined aircraft made a successful flight to the Petrel Base in Antarctica on Saturday, thus proving once again the model's adaptability to the region.
The Argentine Air Force (FAA) has added the Swedish-built Saab 340B twin turboprop to the list of aircraft able to perform logistics missions to Antarctica after a successful first flight last week. The model is ideal for small-size operations that would otherwise require the services of the much larger and four-engined Lockheed C-130 Hercules.
