The by-election for the Camp constituency of the Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly seat is anticipated to take place on Thursday, September 21, Attorney General Simon Young has told Penguin News.
The Falklands Islands Select Committee on the Constitutional Review has decided the order in which it is going to deal with the topics to be covered. The first issue to be looked at will be the Fundamental Rights and Freedoms chapter of the Constitution at a meeting that will possibly take place as soon as the middle of June.
Those who did turn up to the second meeting of the Falkland Islands Select Committee on Constitutional Review on May 25 were greeted by a numbered list of 10 topics projected onto a large screen. The topics were listed in a proposed order for consideration that was produced by what was called “a small group”.
Attorney General Simon Young suggested the most controversial topics needed to be addressed first and leave the easier ones for later as the people of the Falkland Islands prepare to review their Constitution.
The Falkland Islands Government announced on Wednesday the appointment of Simon Young as the next Attorney General of the Falkland Islands. Mr. Young, is due to arrive in early December and will be coming to the Islands with his wife Claire and their three sons.
