  Great triumph for David Attenborough and his Ocean film: end of bottom trawling??

  

  At the age of 99, the documentary film-maker David Attenborough has achieved his greatest triumph. With a single film clip, he has signed the death warrant for one of the world’s most destructive industries: bottom trawling. The companies and countries that do it will go down fighting and it will take time, but they will go down.

  Sir David Attenborough is launching what he says is one of the most important films of his career as he enters his hundredth year. He believes his new, cinema-length film Ocean could play a decisive role in saving biodiversity and protecting the planet from climate change, according to a report in BBC. Sir David, who will be 99 this Thursday, says: ”After almost 100 years on the planet, I now understand the most important place on Earth is not on land, but at sea.

  Frozen Planet II presented by Sir David Attenborough, after four and a half years of filming in 18 countries

  

  In 2011, Frozen Planet gave BBC viewers an unprecedented insight into life in the Poles. The final episode featured British Antarctic Survey (BAS) glaciologist Dr Andy Smith using explosives to see how the ice interacts with the bed beneath to monitor how it behaves and is changing.

  Foreign Office planning to ban drilling and mining offshore BOTs in South Atlantic

  

  British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson is expected to institute a ban on fishing, drilling and freight transport in British overseas territories in the South Atlantic in an effort to protect wildlife in the area. The South Sandwich Islands, which plays host to Antarctic scientists but has no permanent residents, lie around 1,500km east of the Falkland Islands.
