  Unusual dead fauna appearance reported on Uruguayan shores: 80 penguins and a whale

  

  Over 80 penguins, many of them trapped in a fishing net, and a dead whale were reported Wednesday to have appeared on the Atlantic Ocean shores of the Uruguayan department of Maldonado by the NGO SOS Rescate Fauna Marina (RFM).

  Argentina demands UK flagged vessels with toothfish licenses in South Georgia be listed as IUU

  

  British flagged fishing vessels are illegally operating in South Georgia waters, with illegitimate licenses awarded by the United Kingdom, and outside of the multilateral agreement which rules operations in those fisheries, according to a formal complaint from the Argentine foreign ministry made public.

  The head of the Argentine Secretariat on Malvinas, Argentine Antarctica and South Atlantic Islands who will be also attending the UN Special Decolonization Committee this week said he was optimistic about a resumption of Falklands/Malvinas discussions with the UK.

  Impressive service at the Pangbourne Falklands' Memorial Chapel

  

  More than a thousand people gathered on Sunday at Pangbourne College Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel to commemorate forty years since the end of the Falklands War. The Memorial Chapel holds a remembrance service each year for the 255 British personnel, 649 Argentines and three civilian Islanders killed during the 74 days bitter fighting in the South Atlantic in 1982.

  Argentina switches on new radar to monitor South Atlantic airspace

  

  Argentine Defense Minister Jorge Taiana presided over the entry into operation of an air surveillance and control radar in Río Grande, Tierra del Fuego. The equipment (model RPA -170M) was designed and built entirely in Argentina.

  Across the Atlantic from UK to the Falklands, for a first autonomous marine research vessel

  

  Britain's Plymouth Marine Laboratory has commissioned Plymouth-based M Subs Ltd to design and build the autonomous mono-hulled vessel, supported by funding from the Natural Environment Research Council. The vessel-sub Oceanus is scheduled to make its inaugural voyage from the UK to the Falkland Islands, doing marine research along the way without any crew on board.

  Uruguayan Defense receives three bids for purchase of OPVs

  

  Uruguay's Ministry of Defense will now have to weigh three bids from manufacturers of Dutch, French, and Chinese origin who are interested in selling two Ocean Patrol Vessels (OPV) to the South American country's Navy, it was announced Monday in Montevideo after the tender was opened.

  Argentina publishes easy-read guide on Malvinas for “adequate reporting and avoiding inaccuracies”

  

  Argentina's Public Defender's Office set out a booklet with a list of recommendations for the “adequate treatment by media” of issues linked to the sovereignty dispute over the Falklands/Malvinas, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, and adjoining maritime spaces with the purpose of avoiding “inaccuracies towards audiences”.
