  Arctic flights to shed light on sea ice and storm links

  

  Scientists are flying research aircraft through the heart of Arctic storms this summer to better understand how weather systems are affecting polar sea ice. Arctic cyclones are the main type of hazardous weather that affect the polar environment during summer. They can impact sea ice movement and trigger rapid ice loss, effects that themselves influence the development of cyclones.

  Successful refueling of RAF Atlas flying from Brize Norton to Falklands

  

  A Royal Air Force Atlas C1 transport aircraft has been refueled over the South Atlantic for the first time. The Atlas was flown from RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire to Ascension Island before flying on to the Falklands.

  Falklands Veterans and families invited to register for a balloted flight to the Islands

  

  The United Kingdom Ministry of Defense has announced that Veterans and the families of those who died during the Falkland Islands conflict are being invited to register for a balloted flight to the Islands. There will be 100 places on the flight, funded by MOD, with seats allocated to those eligible and a partner of their choice.

  Veteran Simon Weston will visit the Falklands next February on the “Balmoral”

  

  Falklands War Veteran Simon Weston CBE will be visiting the Islands next 22 February when Fred Olsen Cruise Lines “Balmoral” calls at Stanley. The cruise will be next year on an epic 78-night voyage to South America and Antarctica, with Weston joining the trip for fourteen nights and sharing with fellow travelers his experiences during and after the Falklands war.
