  “Le Commandant Charcot” reopens Antarctic cruise season from Punta Arenas

  

  On Sunday Punta Arenas in the extreme south of Chile saw the departure of the first cruise vessel to Antarctica under strict sanitary and safety conditions. The first Antarctic cruise since the start of the pandemic was implemented by what local authorities denominate the sanitary “green bubble”.

  The Ushuaia port authorities have announced that the Norwegian Star will be calling four times in the capital of the extreme south Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego this 2021/22 cruise season.

  Costa Cruises cancels its 2021/22 season in Uruguay and Argentina

  

  As happened with MSC Cruises, Costa Cruises announced on Friday the cancellation of its 2021/2022 cruise season in Uruguay and Argentina. Last-minute differences with Brazilian officials forced the Italian cruise company which belongs to the Carnival Group, to redraft the itinerary of Costa Fascinosa that was expected in Uruguay and Argentina.

  Argentine Central Bank wants tourists to exchange money through formal channels

  

  As borders are about to reopen and tourists are expected to pour in, Argentine authorities have devised a mechanism whereby foreigners may exchange currency (US dollars) at a rate closer to the unofficial (“blue”) one.

  British Airways to resume Buenos Aires route

  

  British Airwars has announced the resumption of its direct services between London and Buenos Aires, starting Dec. 1, albeit with a stopover in Sao Paulo, thus increasing the number of weekly seats available between the largest cities in Argentina and Brazil.

  Low cost airline JetSmart to land in Montevideo next year

  

  Chilean budget carrier JetSmart has announced it will start serving Uruguay as of January 18 with tickets available for as low as US $ 20. The airline plans to offer three weekly flights between the capital cities of Chile and Uruguay with Airbus 320 aircraft which have a capacity of 186 seats.
