    UN Decolonization Committee supports Argentina's Falklands/Malvinas claims

    Hector Timerman said that UK's unwillingness to negotiate, “Far from making the smallest effort to solve the controversy, they irresponsibly aggravate it”

    The United Nations Decolonization Committee approved on Thursday a new resolution urging the United Kingdom to discuss the Falklands/Malvinas dispute with Argentina, in order to find a peaceful solution to the conflict. The decision came as no surprise since it has become an annual event despite Falklands' representatives demand for C24 to act in support of Non Self Governing Territories.

    Falkland Islands lawmaker Mike Summers called on the UN Special Decolonisation Committee to uphold the basic human rights of the people of the Non Self-Governing Territories, particularly self determination, argued that C24 has no mandate to discuss competing claims over NSGTs and cautioned that in supporting Argentine colonial aspirations in the Falkland Islands, “you are complicit in supporting Argentina’s bullying and harassment”.

    The Falkland Islands' long journey from a colony to a self governing, financially autonomous territory, was underlined on Thursday, by lawmaker Phyl Rendell in her presentation to the United Nations Special Decolonization Committee. But so was the fact that advancing development, and relations with the continent are always under threat from Argentina, “who makes no secret of wanting to control our territory against our wishes”.

    Betts  is not with Argentine delegation to the UN Decolonisation meeting, which is discussing the Falklands in New York today.

He is the Falkland Islander who went to Argentina at the end of the 1982 Falklands war; adopted the Spanish version of his name, and portrayed himself as an honourable man who had carefully studied Falklands’ history and reached the conclusion that the Falklands belonged to Argentina.

    Falklands delegates will again ask Decolonization Committee to delist the Islands

     MLAs Phyl Rendell and Mike Summers (L) will be delivering speeches calling for C24 to respect the Falklands' right to self determination

    Falkland Islands elected lawmakers with be delivering speeches on Thursday before the United Nations Decolonization Committee as petitioners requesting C24 de-lists the Islands from the Non Self Governing Territories, upholds the Falkland Islanders right to self determination and frees them from the continuous Argentine bullying and harassment.

    Falklands delegate attending annual Red Ensign Group conference in Bermuda

    The combined size of the British fleet is currently over 47m gross tons consisting of Cruise Ships, LNG Carriers, Oil Tankers, Bulk Carriers, Container Ships and Super Yachts.

    The Falkland Islands is represented at the 25th Annual Red Ensign Group, REG, conference which is taking place in the town of St George's, Bermuda. Minister of Tourism Development and Transport Shawn Crockwell, delivered the opening remarks and welcomed the overseas delegates attending the conference that the Bermuda Department of Maritime Administration is hosting.

    Falklands engineer invited to speak on wind energy in Trinidad Tobago

    Glenn Ross, from the Falkland Islands government, will talk about ”The integration of Wind Power into small (2MW) diesel systems”.

    Glenn Ross from the Falkland Islands will be speaking on wind energy and integration to diesel systems at the annual conference of Trinidad and Tobago Professional Engineers Association (APETT) scheduled for June 25/26 at Point Lisas.

    Falklands-born Alexander Betts candidate for a Mercosur parliament seat

    “We thought it important to have a voice in Parlasur representing Tierra del Fuego. We offered him to run as an outsider and he accepted”, said governor Ríos.

    Alejandro Betts, born in the Falklands and now full Argentine citizen will run for office in the Mercosur Parliament, Parlasur, in representation of the Tierra del Fuego province, although he must first overcome the 9 August PASO primaries (open, simultaneous and mandatory), according to reports from the official Argentine news agency, Telam.

    Run off in Tierra del Fuego governor's election; despite freezing weather, 60% cast ballots

    Results from Tierra del Fuego in the extreme south of Argentina put Victory Front senator Rosana Bertone on course for victory in Sunday's governor's election, although she will have to face a run-off with second-placed Federico Sciurano. With 82.8% of the vote counted Bertone led on 41.8%, followed by Sciurano of the radical-Popular Fueguino Movement coalition who took 33.7%.

    New antiaircraft missile test in Falklands, on fears of “more Argentine aggression”

     According to the Sunday Express the UK made HMV missile can travel at three times the speed of sound, and are guided remotely to their target.

    The Sunday Express has revealed that a live-fire training exercise will be taking place in the Falkland Islands with the participation of Royal Marines deploying high velocity missiles against “incoming attack aircraft” with the purpose of demonstrating combat capacity and to show that the UK can deploy high readiness troops.
