Hungarian born tycoon George Soros and now United States resident made a donation of five million US dollars to a campaign to prevent the re-election of president George Bush in 2004, according to The Washington Post.
Apparently the money went to the organization MoveOn.org, which is closely linked to the opposition Democrat party. Mr. Soros recently donated ten million US dollars to another organization linked to the Democrats.
According to The Washington Post, Mr. Soros main "objective in life" is to prevent Mr. Bush having another four years in the White House.
Mr. Soros is extremely critical of the Bush administration economic and foreign policies.
The news follows the release of a public opinion poll indicating that 44% of Americans are willing to vote against President Bush in November 3004, while 38% support his re-election.
A previous poll from the same New York Public Opinion Institute last April had shown that 40% of those interviewed had the intention of voting for president Bush, and 30% for some other candidate.
The latest poll also shows a fall in the president's popularity and support for this administration, from 70% last April to 53% in October.
The economy and post-war Iraq policy are the two main controversial issues for American public opinion according to the poll.
