The South Atlantic Royal Navy patrol HMS Manchester conducted a maritime capability demonstration of her task unit’s diverse capabilities last Monday in the Falkland Islands.

Local dignitaries and military personnel from the Army and the Royal Air Force stationed at MPA were invited to the display by the Type 42 destroyer.

The demonstrations included live firing of all major weapons and a flying demonstration from the embarked Lynx Helicopter. Later in the day HMS Manchester together with HMS Clyde conducted Replenishment at Sea with RFA Black Rover.

The Capability Day also aimed to give the embarked guests a brief insight into the wider influence that a maritime force can provide to any area of operations and allowed the Ships’ Companies to demonstrate the capability, professionalism and fighting spirit of the three vessels.

The demonstration formed the final part of a three day visit to Stanley. Unfortunately the weather forced the cancellation of a planned Open Day.

HMS Manchester Task Unit is now on patrol conducting routine Maritime Security Operations and a Flag Officer Sea Training Operational Assurance Visit.

This visit is designed to ensure that the maritime forces in the South Atlantic remain ready for Operational Tasking as required. (FIRS).
