The Argentine army lost every battle it fought in the Falklands and never even advanced to contact. What are your criteria for a defeat Ivo?

You sound like the Black Knight from Monty Python's Holy Grail.

I feel sorry for all veterans of the Falkland Islands war. Especially the Argentines who were just young conscripts being used by the Junta as a political gamble. They had no chance against a professionally trained British force.

Can anyone tell me how well the current Argentine leadership looks after the mental health of these veterans because I have read there is a high rate of suicide within this group?

BEEF, you are absolutly right with what you say, houndred of our soldiers suicide their selves after 1982, all of us have a huge moral debt with those people, anyway since a couple of years, they are so much more considered for the politic scenario, but it wont never be enough.
On the other hand, i'm very happy because my country is a party at the moment, i hope i can enjoy unless one of the cellebrations, the rain wont ruine our party.

More UK veterans have now met their demise through suicide than were killed during the conflict

@axel arg. If I understand your comments correctly, I wish you enjoyment of your Bicentennial celebrations. We don't really have such things in Britain. Too many hundreds of years involved. Imagine celebrating 1500 years. Unfortunately, you are held back by people like ivo and Nicodin who cannot accept the truth. Never mind. As I understand it, for 38 years the only Argentine troops on the Falkland Islands have been dead ones.
Mind you, I watched a TV programme yesterday about the experiences of the Islanders during the Argentine occupation. Given the lack of proper treatment under the terms of the Geneva Convention and the damage to their homes, including the bathtubs left full of human excrement, the excrement left ground into bedding and living room furniture, I doubt whether any Argentine troops will be welcome back anytime soon. Actually, it says a lot for the compassion of the Islanders that they let even Argentine civilians into their country.
It may be that the veterans that march are from the original assault force. In which case it is true that they weren't beaten. That's because they weren't there. And should they call themselves “veterans”? After all, the 60,000 Argentine assault forces were opposed by 70 Royal Marines. How proud the “veterans” must be of that!!

NicoDin. My commet above (4) was a true question and do not think just because I am British that I agreed with the UK's involvement in Iraq. I have not ever visited Iraq but have worked with colleagues from Saudi and Iran so I have a good understanding of the average Arab and Persian view. I have no investments with companies invovled in Iraq.

Like I have said on other boards, I will be giving some of my profit from my investment in the Oil Exploration to a UK charity for Falkland Veterans, my small contribution may help these charities look after the veterans in some way. Only fair I think.

It reads like everyone has not paid too much attention to what the article is all about. It is not about the Falklands/Malvinas, but about Argentina´s bicentennial celebrations. The article accurately reports the parade, but contains a couple of normal government falsehoods, the first being that the president was not scheduled to attend, as she was scheduled, but apparently she couldn´t face any more catcalls, which she had received the previous day, when she opened the celebration. The second was the statement that Juan José Castelli was the founding father of Argentina; but he was sometimes known as the “speaker” of Argentina, as in 1810, he gave a very long, passionate speech for independence.

Respect is something you earn, it is not something you are entitled to.

The British have no interest in your bicentenary. It is of no interest or relevance to us as something like Trooping the Colour would be of no interest or relevance to you.
