Chilean Army invests 15.8m dollars in upgrading US made Howitzers

A Chilean plan for modernizing and upgrading its defense forces is under way with one of the first major contracts going to BAE Systems for the supply and refurbishment of 12 U.S.-made M109A5 howitzers. The 15.8 million dollars contract has been implemented for the Chilean Government through a US foreign military sales contract. Read full article

    I thought the Chileans already had M109s (ex Switzerland) that the Swiss had already upgraded (or rather kept the basic chassis and swapped out anything they could make work better or more reliably)?

    Not all were from Switzerland Rufus only half were. The other half were from the US. This will upgrade those ones.

    Chile owns 72 units of M109

    48 bought from Switzerland (upgraded)
    24 bought from USA, whereas only 12 require an update, the other 12 also had one already.
