Rossi: session will have a tremendous symbolism Rossi: session will have a tremendous symbolism

The Argentine congress will be holding an extraordinary session next 24 February in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego to debate on the Falklands/Malvinas conflict. Under the 1994 Argentine constitution, the Falklands come under the jurisdiction of the province of Tierra del Fuego.

“We are going to work with the Foreign Affairs Senate Committee to be in Ushuaia on the 24th, capital of the province of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands, which obviously include the Malvinas, to hold a joint session of Deputies and Senators on the Malvinas issue”, said the Kirchnerite lawmaker Agustin Rossi.

“The session will have a tremendous symbolism”, said Rossi who added that the Argentine congress is most concerned with the growing ‘militarization’ of the conflict in the South Atlantic by the UK.

“Argentina has always worked for a solution to the Malvinas conflict in the framework of peace and negotiations and the UK decisions are in the opposite direction” said Rossi who underlined the support from other countries to Argentina’s sovereignty claim over the Islands.

“As I see it, this growing support in quantity and intensity to the Argentine position is what has really upset things for the British government and has forced it to take these ‘militarization’ decisions”, added Rossi.

I wonder if they will invite a representative from the Falklands to be able to discuss the Islanders point of view.If they dont then they could be accused of Neo-colonialism This term, usually pejorative, refers to a sort of “unofficial” colonization, in which a country's government is overthrown by larger country and replaced by a government that coincides with the larger country's interests. In effect, this makes the country a colony.
