These oligarchic “farmers” really are a joke, of course they'll support Paraguay where people like them have political power!

Good to see that the farmers have more sense that the imbecile propagandists for Mercosur who deny a country its right to remove its corrupt leader by constitutional means.

People should heed to their opinion. Who has more of an understanding and know the value of the democratic process than large landowners?

You really are a strange socialist. One who HATES the poor working class people, but adores those in power to the point of rabid fanaticism.

I've suddenly realised something. You only 'think' you are a socialist. By all your comments you 'prove' you are a fascist. You're probably a Nazi too, hence your preoccupation with the Reichmistress.

The farmers are right to be worried. The political decisions made by Mercosur over Paraguay break the rules of Mercosur itself.

Venezula CANNOT become a member of Mercosur until Paraguay agrees. Suspending them does not 'remove' this clause. Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay are acting against the Mercosur charter. If Venezula gets 'in' this way, then Mercosur will be finished, but that's what Venezula and Argentina want. They want to carve up South America between them.

#4 LOL as I recall paraguay was suspended from mercosur, this means they have no say in mercosur, Paraguay like to block the unification of our region and for this reason we think it's great that Paraguay is getting a taste of their own medicine. Venezuela is on the driver seat and hopefully Chavez will allow Paraguay back in but all this will depend on how well Paraguay learns their lesson to not betray the block regarding progress. The farmer reference to Venezuela illegitimate integration has no grounds on the coup d'etat in Paraguay witch is the reason Paraguay was bared and suspended from mercosur, if this farmers keep pissing in the air mercosur will not accept sitting members smelling like urine. If Paraguay came clean and took responsibility for their acts maybe mercosur would excuse Paraguay for the political irregularities. Let's just hope they all learn a lesson.

#4 I support the poor working masses, these “farmers” are not them! As for adoring those in power, believe me Cristina and her Latin American friends are pretty much the exception, in most of the world the governments are still run by and for rich people like, well, these farmers!

The farmers necons (mostly from Argentina) only are concern about the smuggled $$$ they have put on Paraguay to extend they soy kingdom.

Sure they were plotting against Lugo to keep people poor because that is the way they get cheap labour to work on their farms.

They would love to go back to 1930 when they can have a whole family working all day just for food.

Now that their plan went wrong they are concern about how affected their business can be.

Brilliant analysis, Dany!!!! Soy is THE crop that uses the least employment. That is why it has become the most popular crop produced in South America.

Read, mark, learn and inwardly digest before making stupid comments!!!!!

Paraguay has no say do to a suspension from mercosur, mercosur can't stop normal activity do to corrupt governments trying to block the unity of the region, witch is exactly what Paragraph was doing and is trying to do now. With separatist intentions like that coming from Paraguay we should keep them out and away from having any say in mercosur. Venezuela will bring billions into the region and everyone can share the wealth, while with Paraguay we will be meeting to voté for the next 100 years with no progress.

Paraguay and its growing production of soybeans, beef, wheat, corn, etc. etc., are helping to feed the world population. In regions that soybean production has become the dominant crop, wages have spiked because we can't find workers. #7, #8: I'd suggest you actually visit the soybean/corn/wheat/mandioc growing regions of Paraguay before you make uncollaborated comments. The campesinos and large farmers work side by side to produce food for the world. Issues like the murders that ousted Lugo were the result of a long campaign run by the radical left to turn Paraguay into another totalitarian state such as Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, and of course Cuba.

With growth of 15% in 2011 (2nd in the WORLD), and expected growth of 14% for 2013, I think we are doing just fine. Just leave us alone, allow us to trade our goods, and we'll be just fine.

#10 two of the nations you listed are mercosur nations why would paraguay want to be part of the bloc??? Don't take me wrong I think paraguay belongs in the bloc as well as venezuela but if paraguay is going to complicates progress in mercosur, I think we are going to need reassurance that Paraguay will not use the bloc to implement an ulterior agenda. Trade is good for everybody.

Pure ideological fantasy on your part

#11 I agree, open free trade between people is essential for wealth to be created; North Korea is the opposite case as it has a completely closed off nation. Opening up trade with Venezuela is great, however, even as Hugo Chavez stated, Mercosur no longer will serve that purpose, but instead bring together a political agenda. UNASUR already has the function of a political bloc, but MERCOSUR needs to remain a trading bloc and keeping Paraguay in will give it some chance to do so.
#10 I would be what you consider a large farmer, yet we help out the local small farmers, campensinos. We build schools, provide computer labs and classes, provide jobs, send their kids to college, maintain the roads, supply the police stations, on and on. Why do we do this? Because they are our neighbors and we don't want to see people suffer; the government does nothing for them. Now obviously there are the radicals, a group of maybe 15k that want to create problems, but they are a minority and don't represent the rest of the campesinos.
#13 Yes there will be conflicts, much how there are murders, rapes, robberies in a city. How many stories i could pull up on a farmer killing a farmer or a campesino killing a campesino is much greater.

If you want to see what happens when you remove the large “white trash” land owners, take a look at the case of Zimbabwe; from the bread basket of Africa to starvation.

Again people, come and visit and see first hand for yourselves. Vacation to Paraguay is cheap and you are sure to have a good time.

    @BAMF Paraguay

I have nothing again Paraguay or Paraguayan and in fact I have been in Asunsión long time ago for 2 weeks.
I’m just against necons exploiters (mostly farmers and Bankers) that like to have and economic environment like 1930.

Having people in Paraguay with good consumption power will provide an internal market to develop industries, commerce, etc.

And to do that requires a state able to redistribute wealth and to promote such activities.
But with a big necon lobbyist body like exist in Paraguay I don’t have any hope of that.

Dany, next time you get a chance stop off in Paraguay, like I said it is cheap and you'll be surprised. The country is becoming extremely prosperous and it is largely due to farming; drought this year WILL cause a recession. But farming has already turned over to industry and everyone is benefiting. Of course there will be rich people, but we need that, so they can build more industry and schools and roads, etc. No joke, farmers here have built their own roads and maintain them, put up power lines and also maintian them, set up schools or sponsered public schools because they need their kids to have good education. It's working, everyone is becoming richer, yes even the campesinos. Our neighboring campesinos have brick homes, everyone has a motorcyle (thanks to the motorcycle factory that opened up a few years ago) or a car and many of them have been able to setup their own businesses. Things are good here, but the distribution of wealth by the government will destroy everything. Yeah I know that paraguay has one of the greatest disparities between rich and poor, but that isn't true. Those statistics are based on the official economy, and in paraguay, especially the poor are not in the offical economy. Actually 70% or so is not in the official economy. Such is so that our real recession this year is most likely around -15%, but last year's growth was most likely around 25%. It is a very interesting place.
