China denies influencing the Venezuelan election in favour of President Chavez

China has “no intention of influencing” the coming Venezuelan elections said a Foreign ministry spokesperson in Beijing following allegations from opposition presidential candidate Henrique Capriles that recent economic agreements signed between Beijing and Caracas are part of that strategy.     You can't control world oil markets without controling the shipping lanes. China has a long way to go on that.

    Of course China isn't going to directly intervene, they have been ultra-cautious in this kind of politics since Mao, and after his Cultural Revolution extremism, I can understand why. It may, on the other hand, influence the Venezuelan voters to see how much better Chavez handles the new realities in the world than the pro-US Capriles. Nothing wrong with that in a democracy!
