By Alicia Dunkley-Willis (*) - With commercial oil production projected to commence in 2017 for the 3,000 population Falkland Islands, efforts are now underway to ensure that the impending wealth does not upset the order here. Read full article
#1 Good call, I'll suggest it at the next AGM! Lots of wealth to be shared out from direct and indirect services.
Another interesting angle is that Singapore sovereign wealth funds have invested in Falklands exploration and ports in Uruguay and Brazil. And Mexico's offshore oil service industry for that matter. The dots are joining up nicely.
on here slagging the country that pays her wages and keeps a roof over it's head, pathetic immigrant, i feel sorry for our brothers across the pond having to tolerate it. Well done the Falklands all coming into place now, enjoy the wealth and prosperity you deserve it, and especially enjoy watching the green eyed monsters to the west whinging, crying and generally making a noise whilst imploding.
@7 me too much respect for the people who live there may they all prosper, I've been to the Falklands many times in the RN, can be harsh and unforgiving thats why I have the deepest respect for the people who ARE going to make it a great place and more than a speck on the map or a subject of Argentinian rhetoric and lies, I raise my glass to all.
Pretty unique situation in the FI, with the potential oil boom. A small island population potentially becoming mega rich, through a natural resource, the best comparison I can find is with Nauru.
I'm sure things will be better managed in the FI, but immigration will still have an impact on the islanders culture. Take a look at what happened in Nauru below.
@12 don't think there is any comparision really, immigration will be Brits or people the Falkland Islanders allow, maybe keeeping it to just brits will stop all the shit we put up with in the UK (you know what i mean) let the islanders decide, as a self governing society let them decide, either way i hope they prosper massively and often look to the west and grin broadly at thier green neighbours knowing they will always be defended by the mother nation. Go Falklands make us all proud
The 3,000 retards living in such Malditas Islands not too much they can do...except to keep dreaming...that some day.....their population might reach...3,oo1 retards.....jeeeeeeeeeeeejeeeeeeeeeeejeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
@14 diddums, somebody got something you want? something that you will never get, you tried stealing and got your hands slapped, and all you have left is crying and insults, well..... boo fkin hoo :))))) maybe somebody needs an afternoon nap?
lol, even if Falklands never produced oil, they could still produce more income per capita, and Britain could simply hand them a bigger handout just for shits n giggles, if they so felt like it....than Argies will EVER see. The West FARTS money, we got those beautiful US dollars they desire so badly, comin out our arse.
At 2012..... That was possibly the most pathetic childish post youve written yet! Open another bottle and keep em coming and they may give u a senoir position in the RG government flea circus :-)
Doing things properly takes time and professionalism. Setting up a production infrastructure is considerably more complicated than switching on stadium lights for example.
And don't worry about rockhoppers price, I've hedged my position. What you need to understand is that not everyone operates in an emotion based hysteria, where there is only one way of seeing things.
Fantastic news for the Falkland Islanders! I am so pleased for you. Here's a suggestion. You have 776 smaller islands. How about siting oil industry accommodation on some of them? I'm sure you won't be forgetting your promise to pay for your own defence. Here's a thought. A Type 45 destroyer costs about £1 billion. Would you like to have your very own? I'm sure BAE would be only too pleased to build one for you. It could be there all year! Still part of the Royal Navy, of course. We could just fly crews out for it. Something to think about! And you could probably still have one from Britain as well. Wouldn't it be nice to see TWO Type 45s steaming around? Would you also like some aeroplanes? Another 4 Typhoons perhaps? Your very own Airbus Voyager?
Oh!...my.....the islands don't have enough people....or a decent 5 stars hotel, no community college or indoor swimming pool/jacuzzi/ no shopping mall, not even an apartment building like the Arbour Park @US$650.00 p/month rent,.....
and this Conqueror/Captain Poppy the biggest UK WIMP.... keeps dreaming.....and given the folkloosers hopes some day the 3,000 retards will make it .....Oh, my......what a british ARSE!
Here we go again. Self obsessed to the nth degree.
How can anyone live without a jacuzzi, shopping malls, 5 star hotels, indoor swimming pools etc. I would imagine the best part of Argentina manages !
Anyway, when the oil revenues start flowing, I am sure they will make good use of it to build what they deem necessary
By the way $650.00 a month sounds rather cheap for rented accommodation - must be bottom end of the market.
The rents in Manhattan for a class apartment must be more than this.
Who in their right mind would want to stay in an apartment if they can have a detached house in its own grounds.
As to shopping malls, what is the big deal about them .
I take it then that every town in Argentina has a shopping mall - or does it !
By the way, an arse is a useful thing to have - what use are you?
26 Conquerer.
Very good idea. The USAF here financed an RAF Regiment Rapier Sqn to defend their airfields, 66SQN. Paid for the kit and maintenance, our guys operated it, mutual support. Your suggestion about a Typhoon Sqn, would be very similiar, manned by our guys and any Falklander with the right abilities, could rotate between the air defence of the UK and the Falkland Islands. Half the squadron there half here, 3 month rotations, something like that. It would give the Islanders the feeling that they are defending themselfs a pride in knowing that they are theirs. Do not get me wrong, I am not saying for a millisecond that we should not defend them, they are our families, our relatives, our people and we protect them with every means at our disposal and we do it willingly. Your suggestion about an Airliner, why not? Lease one, two or more from a recognised carrier, operate them from Mount Pleasant.
Anyhing is possible once the oilfields are developed. Falklanders using their financial bounty for themselfs.
Sounds like a plan. Except you'd better clear it with Dove and Think first. Dove doesn't like Falkland Islanders coming up with ideas of their own and he needs Think to hold his hand. Haven't you noticed that each one is like the other one's shadow?
By the time the Sealion field is fully developed, and the satellite fields of Casper, Beverley, Chatham etc are added to the mix, the total field will be about 500m barrels of oil.
At $100 a barrel, that's a gross income of $50billion. Costs will be roughly $10billion for the life of the field...so a gross profit of $40billion of which 36% is payable in tax/duty.
So, that's $14bn over the next 20 years, or $700m a year tax revenue, every year for the next 20 years.
There are 3000 islanders. So tax revenue per capita of $230,000!! Just from Sealion...every year for two decades.
Fantastic news:
So, the shopping list:
1) pay for own defence
2) open up logistic channels to supply islands at ideal frequency
3) ensure that islander health/education/welfare systems are first class
4) ensure FI veterans/families are well supported
5) set up a national investment fund
Watch whilst further oil/gas/condensate discoveries come on line...celebrate.
MacRobert's Reply was the name given to a famous World War II, Royal Air Force aircraft, a Short Stirling bomber, serial N6086 operated by No. 15 Squadron. The aircraft was paid for by a generous £25,000 donation from Lady Rachel Workman MacRobert, and was named 'MacRobert's Reply' in commemoration of her three sons, all of whom were killed whilst serving with the RAF. The eldest son Alasdair died in a flying accident in 1938, whilst Roderic and Iain were both killed in action during 1941. A second Short Stirling, serial W7531, was also named 'MacRobert's Reply' after the first aircraft N6086 was written off in an accident.
A RAF Tornado bears the same name today.
Perhaps An RAF Typhoon might one day bear the name, The Falklanders reply.”
Marcos - Have you not got the message yet? Premiere Oil are the guys with the money and funding the exploitation . Oil shares go up and down - now doubt when more exploratory drilling and the exploitation pipelaying and drilling starts in 2014 then shares will start to gradually move up again- meanwlie they just as stocks and shares - which go up- and in todays world - mostly down!
Conqureo?MMagic etc - it has long been accepted here by Islanders that one of the early things will be to pay for our current defence costs - then depending on the funds - to start working back and repaying and yes the names HMS Darwin and HMS Douglas Station have been mentioned.
BUT no income until late 2017 at the earliest and then it will be small amounts at the start so please cool down all - 5 years to go yet!
Nobody here is too excited or shopping yet.
I can see it now. The first tanker pulling away into the open seas, the islanders waving, a RAF fly past from Mount Pleasant and loud speakers blaring out the war time voice of Gracie Fields.
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye
Cheerio, here I go, on my way
Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye.
Dr Barry Elsby. One of the two clowns that tried to crash the regional meeting in Panama and were stopped dead cold by alert Argentine and Unasur diplomats. Failing in their attempt, they were sent off to Mexico to make fools of themselves on an interview with Spanish CNN. Drawing much heat from Mexican press and media. What people would do for cash. The ways of colonialism.
....and then you woke up and realised it had all been a marvellous dream. Not really. I was quite awake at the time. So awake that if I had a machine gun I would have filled my TV screen with holes from front to back. I did send a letter to Ms Aristegui in Mexico City suggesting inviting a guest from the Argentine foreign ministry or academia on her show for equal time. Perhaps invite the two scoundrels on the show for a lively debate. I doubt that they have the guts to sit there and lie under the circumstances. It really is not her call. It is someone elses agenda from Atlanta being advanced.
ProG - do get into facts and not the fantasy of an Argentine! The 2 Falklands Elected Parliamenarians were INVITED as OBSERVERS to the meeting! The rgentine delegation objected to their prescence- it went to the elected Committee of the member States - and the Arg objection was rejected and the Islands Invited Observers STAYED.
Those are the Hard Facts of truth - suggest you call the Committee Chairman and ask for verification if you do not believe it.
The Islands are NOT members - so of course they could not speak in the debates- they knew it anyway- it,s the rules of most organisations!! BUt they were ablew to- and did - talk to other delegates at fringe meetings, parties etc etc.
The 2 delegates there got their normal working daily remuneration and their accomodation and flights costs, and zero more.Same as most others there - well maybe one Country has to bribe its people to go do they?
Intersting visit here at the moment of a group of press from the Caribbean - seems The Islands- Belize- Guyana all have a similar problem - a nasty big neighbour who claim their territory and do what they can to make life difficult for the small country!
The 2 Falklands Elected Parliamenarians were INVITED as OBSERVERS to the meeting! The rgentine delegation objected to their prescence- it went to the elected Committee of the member States - and the Arg objection was rejected and the Islands Invited Observers STAYED.
FALSE - They tried to pass as a country and were stopped in their tracks. This would a set a presedent that would have compromised Argentinas legitimate claim. They were put in their place as observers by quick Unsur diplomacy.
Make of it what you will, real people, with real intelligence know exactly what it was, it was a delegation of Falkland Islanders invited along as observers by Canadian Government. Twist it, distort it, manipulate it or complain about it. They were invited as observers and observers is what they were!
Fuck it, they were there, and personaly, I think that realy pissed you and your like off. Shame!!!!
42 ProRG_American
What a load of old tosh! It was in the paper the week before; councillors attending a meeting as observers.
As for 'diplomacy'.........you have diplomats do you? There's more to diplomacy than turning up at the world tiddlywinks championship and yelling about the 'Malvinas'.
Read is post about the Belgrano on another story here, sank when sailing back after being told of a peace deal! The man is despicable, he would even deny those sailors their status as heroes back in Argentina, to score points!!! How fucking low can you get, robbing the dead and their families of their honour, below contempt!
ProRG_American....Most of your posts are complete nonsense. So, can you help me understand what it is you stand for? I mean, you're clearly a socialist, or wannabe communist, I'm not sure. Your handle is ProRG, does that really mean ProCFK and everything CFK is trying to do?
I doubt there will be any tax revenue until 2020 as capital expenditure will be repaid before tax is due on profits...but 8 years is no time at all, and in the mean time further discoveries will be made in the north and south.
Prudence is all very well, but the scale of the discovery and potential, should be (and I am sure it is) , driving intelligent and realistic debate about what should happen in that time.
ProG- If you dispute what we say- check the committe records and those of the president/Charman - or just stop talking drivel please.
Cuba who is on the group committee even eventually agreed that our prescence as Observers was legitimate!
This is a bit like the fantasy claim of civilian settlers thrown out in 1833! All verbal trash totally at odds with the written record facts!
With respect to the Parlasur meeting in Panama; the representatives of the Falkland Islands were invited by Canada as OBSERVERS and attended all the meetings in that capacity. Our Chancellor, Mr Timmerman tried to get them kicked out and failed miserably, so miserably in fact that the Cuban Foreign Minister supported Canada's position!!!!!
Whilst on the subject of international meetings, at the recent APSA meeting in Peru, CFK demanded that the final document should contain support for Argentina's claim to the Falkland Islands etc., but unfortunately the rest of the attendees refused. She returned to Argentina without attending the final meeting, supposedly because of the security forces' manifestation!!!!!
According to the article in El Observador the USA vetoed the inclusion of Argentinas claim to the Falkland Islands.
This must hurt CFK as she had no luck in Peru at the ASPA meeting, no luck at the OAS meeting, not much luck at the UN, in fact not much interest from all her SA friends!!!!!!!
The article in El Observador says vetoed:
Según supo El Observador, la situación del Atlántico sur como zona de paz es uno de los puntos sobre los que no hay acuerdo. EEUU vetó ese artículo de la declaración final que previó respaldar el reclamo de soberanía de Argentina sobre las Malvinas.
I don't question that the report says veto. I question whether the report is correct in describing it as a veto rather than a failure to gain the consensus required by the rules of the organisation. Anyway, the end result is the same.

The 2 Falklands Elected Parliamenarians were INVITED as OBSERVERS to the meeting! The rgentine delegation objected to their prescence- it went to the elected Committee of the member States - and the Arg objection was rejected and the Islands Invited Observers STAYED.
Oct 06th, 2012 - 12:16 am - Link - Report abuse 0FALSE - They tried to pass as a country and were stopped in their tracks.
Oct 06th, 2012 - 12:25 am - Link - Report abuse 0Fuck it, they were there, and personaly, I think that realy pissed you and your like off. Shame!!!!

Oct 06th, 2012 - 12:43 am - Link - Report abuse 0What a load of old tosh!
Oct 06th, 2012 - 01:30 am - Link - Report abuse 0ProRG_American....Most of your posts are complete nonsense. So, can you help me understand what it is you stand for? I mean, you're clearly a socialist, or wannabe communist, I'm not sure. Your handle is ProRG, does that really mean ProCFK and everything CFK is trying to do?

Oct 06th, 2012 - 08:18 am - Link - Report abuse 0I doubt there will be any tax revenue until 2020 as capital expenditure will be repaid before tax is due on profits...but 8 years is no time at all, and in the mean time further discoveries will be made in the north and south.
Prudence is all very well, but the scale of the discovery and potential, should be (and I am sure it is) , driving intelligent and realistic debate about what should happen in that time.
I am really pleased for you guys...roll on 2020!,
ProG- If you dispute what we say- check the committe records and those of the president/Charman - or just stop talking drivel please.
Oct 06th, 2012 - 12:25 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Cuba who is on the group committee even eventually agreed that our prescence as Observers was legitimate!
Oct 06th, 2012 - 03:49 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Whilst on the subject of international meetings, at the recent APSA meeting in Peru, CFK demanded that the final document should contain support for Argentina's claim to the Falkland Islands etc., but unfortunately the rest of the attendees refused. She returned to Argentina without attending the final meeting, supposedly because of the security forces' manifestation!!!!!

Oct 06th, 2012 - 10:31 pm - Link - Report abuse 0At the Defence Summit here in Punta del Este, to be attended by the top defence authorities from 34 American nations, Argentina's motion for the Falklands issue to be included has been vetoed by the US.

@52 Not a veto, surely. Actually, a failure to achieve a consensus on the issue.
Oct 07th, 2012 - 01:42 pm - Link - Report abuse 0According to the article in El Observador the USA vetoed the inclusion of Argentinas claim to the Falkland Islands.
Oct 07th, 2012 - 02:03 pm - Link - Report abuse 0This must hurt CFK as she had no luck in Peru at the ASPA meeting, no luck at the OAS meeting, not much luck at the UN, in fact not much interest from all her SA friends!!!!!!!
The article in El Observador says vetoed:
Oct 07th, 2012 - 03:47 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Según supo El Observador, la situación del Atlántico sur como zona de paz es uno de los puntos sobre los que no hay acuerdo. EEUU vetó ese artículo de la declaración final que previó respaldar el reclamo de soberanía de Argentina sobre las Malvinas.

Will go straight down the toilet..

@54 and 55
Oct 07th, 2012 - 06:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Chaps,
I don't question that the report says veto. I question whether the report is correct in describing it as a veto rather than a failure to gain the consensus required by the rules of the organisation. Anyway, the end result is the same.
