True to form. The Argentinian economy is going down faster than a lady of the night on overtime so sudenly the Argentinians ramp up their pathetic attempts to deflect the populations attention towards The Falklands and onto anti British sentiment.
Surely our government remember that the 1982 war started with The Argentinians sending scrapmetal workers ( actually Argentinian soldiers) to South Georgia. If this protest takes place, or any so called Argentinian Scientists land on South Georgia then we should take very forceful military reprisals.

I love this story. They are going to protest every Wednesday lunch time. LOL! They have had one protest so far that was not a success and the next one is postponed because it is (yet another) national holiday. LOL! They couldn't possibly be protesting about a cause they feel SO strongly about on a holiday, could they. Brilliant.

All the South American airlines will want a route to the Falklands once the oil starts pumping. They know they have made a big mistake writing themselves off from that.
When will they get it through their heads that the British are not south american, demands, tantrums, threats and terrorism do not work with us.

Wow, I've just found something new! I don't usually spend a lot of time checking on airlines but, in Wikipedia, it's the first time I've seen “accidents and incidents” as a separate article. Guess who. Aerolineas Argentinas! The article lists 32 “incidents” between 1950 and 1999. Did they stop reporting them after that?
On a serious note, what happens when an RAF Typhoon shoots an AA aircraft down for being in restricted airspace without authorisation? Or perhaps the Army will use a Rapier battery!
It's fair to remember that Buenos Aires refuses to contact the appropriate authorities for authorisation to fly to the Falkland Islands. The appropriate authorities being the Falkland Islands Government!
Moreover, it would be for the Falkland Islands Government to agree use of a “white card” for argie nationals.
Also, the status of the Islands has changed since 1971/2. Back then, the UK government could make such agreements. Now it can't.
Why is it that argies are always so far behind?

What was that video all about - I see it received one comment.
To summarise, a few Argentinians get into a yacht and sail for the Malvinas. Due to faulty navigation, they arrive at the Falklands. They talk a lot,(in Spanish), flashbacks to the war, a few songs are sung, and then they come back. Some nice shots of dolphins. I admit that I did not watch the full 57 minutes but I had other things to do.
Maybe you can tell us what it was all about ?

Tony Lopez really suits those US prison overalls

“the success of the campaign against cruise vessels calling in the Falklands”

    Really?

This guy admits terrorist actions that his government do nothing about, which in turn he take to be a sanction from his government.

How exactly does this fit in with UN GA resolutions on the matter? After all, most of the Argentineans on this site seem to think UN GA resolutions are law. Does that mean he takes lack of action by the UN as approval of these methods?

How is anything he is doing acting in the interests of the Islanders?

If the FIG is illegitimate, than what would he think that would make any Argentinean governance? 250 miles of water between the Falklands and Argentina means the UN should not recognise any vote where the Islanders vote was swamped by trying to include it in some part of mainland South America, and any Argentinean population planted onto the islands without Islanders controlling immigration would equally go against UN documented opinion on recognised democracy.

These muppets really need to wake up.

    #42 Conqueror,
I'm afraid your idea is somewhat impractical as LAN has to cross Argentinian Air space in order to reach the islands.

Also it seems now the Argentine government is planning to go ahead with an extensive proposal. From the press: An Argentine government spokesperson elaborated that Aerolineas Argentinas would be acquiring three Tupolev 154 modern aircraft to service the route. With a cruising speed of 975 kilometres per hour (606 mph), the Tu-154 is one of the fastest civilian aircraft in operation and has a range of 5,280 kilometres (3,280 mi). Capable of operating from unpaved and gravel airfields, it was widely used in extreme Arctic conditions where other airliners were unable to operate and where service facilities were very basic.

Alicia Castro, Ambassador to the United Kingdom in a post meeting conference, also mentioned that current plans of Aerolineas Argentinas will eventually include a connecting non-stop flight from Buenos Aries to London via a new proposed fleet of Tupovev 404 jumbo airliners to facilitate easier and timely access for passengers originating and arriving at Mount Pleasant. The changeover to an exclusive Tupolev fleet for Aerolineas Argentinas is part of the current government’s strategy to offset trade swap in goods instead of depending on obtaining international credit allowing for a complete modernization of the fleet. The TU154 connecting with the forth coming TU404 service will prove that Argentina is committed to its territorial inhabitants best needs and remains serious about its promises for a peaceful solution with an opportunity to improve communications and the quality of life to the Islanders.

I  don't know if eliminating service from LAN Chile is a good idea, but the Argentines seem sincere... Plus, maybe this is the time to give CFK another chance to show that she only has the islander's best interests at heart.

So lets figure this out. Three TU154 aircraft which must be about 30 years old. Highly fuel inefficient, noisy and polluting.
TU 404. An aircraft, to my knowledge, which was a design study and has never been produced. Maybe it has stealth technology and we can't see it.
Of course they could get some magic carpets from their Iranian chums and Ms. Castro could serve sherbet on the maiden flights - no alcohol allowed. The toilet facilities would be a bit limited !

    45- a few “problems”

It would be suicidal for the Falklands to allow an Argentine Airline in - they would promote cheap flights to get tourists and all ouside customers to stop using Lan or any other airline - to make that airline loose money and pull out.
Then Argentina would have the Falklands by the thrat as regards external communications - and sorry but those bastards had us by the throut for a while until 14th June 1982 - and NEVER again that mistake!
Secondly- Arg states that the Islands Government does not exist. In order for AN aitline to fly here from ANYWHERE in the world they have to approach and talk to and do business with and comply with- and thus recognise the existence of - Falkland Islands Govt Dept of Civil Aviation - this organisation is responsible for who and how flies here etc - nothing to do with London.
Somehow I think an Arg State owned airline will have a few little problems to overcome there?

Then landing etc - said airline is going to have to communicate with and accept the standards of the the Royal AirForce at MPA - as they own the runway and they decide whose aircraft is safely insured and meets correct Int Safety Standards to land on it - as it is the RAF who would have to scrape the mess up afterwards!
Yet another problem for an Arg State owned airline!

Passports - again NOTHING to do with London - Passport control and immigration regulations are 100% controlled and regulated by Falkland Islands Govt Immigration and Customs.

There will be lots of pigs and cows flying around the moon and somersaulting in the sky before an Arg State owned airline flies to the Falklands!

This comes up from time to time but you can understand why: the existing fleet of Aerolineas is decrepid and a lot of it is unusable for its intended purposes. Despite 'I don't Think' and his Turnip comments here it is:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-Z2dO14ApE
10 years in storage and this is the first flight. You can see the landing gear is down for all the flight: this pilot is no idiot! Fantastic flying considering it looks like most of the tail and fin had no control surfaces working.

    Facts:
”The Tu-154 first flew on October 4 1968. The first production example was delivered to Aeroflot in early 1971, although regular commercial service did not begin until February 1972.
Three Kuznetsov powered variants of the Tu-154 were built, the initial Tu-154, the improved Tu-154A with more powerful engines and a higher max takeoff weight, and the Tu-154B with a further increased max takeoff weight. Tu-154S is a freighter version of the Tu-154B.
Current production is of the Tu-154M, which first flew in 1982. The major change introduced on the M was the far more economical, quieter and reliable Soloviev (now Aviadvigatel) turbofans. Low rate production continues. Meanwhile the proposed Tu-154M-2 with two PS-90A turbofans remains unbuilt.“
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-Z2dO14ApE

I hope the argies replace their entire airplane fleet with this rubbish. Nobody in their right mind would fly in one of these things, especially one ”maintained” by the argies.

Perhaps they will buy them from their mates the Iranians, they have quite a few of them for obvious reasons.

The Tupolev 404 remains an unfulfilled concept for 1,200 passengers with a canard wing design. I cannot find any evidence of one ever being built or flown. Perhaps Putridjelli has secret plans to capture the worlds mass transit capacity with them built alongside the fabled ICBM, non-nuclear warhead of course.

Clyde, with all respect, too much negative thinking on your part.  First, the T-154 has a solid proven track record for reliability under some of the harshest weather conditions on earth.  Used in a number of countries, Its ability to land on unpaved and gravel airfields allows it the flexibility to make emergency landings at a number of alternative airports.  Plus I understand these planes have been completely refurbished.  Regarding the T- 404, you need to be reminded that any new aircraft needs to be ordered well in advance and Ambassador Castro did say in the future.  Face it Clyde, your erroneous information is about as reliable as the IMF's assesment of what actual inflation is in Latin America.  Anyway, the T- 154 has several important advantages, such as it  can be acquired using an offset trade swap instead of attempting to obtain international credit and it's  highly doubtful the aircraft would be a target of asset seizures. You can't say that about most commercial aircraft.
    #40
From what I understand José, your Peronist dreams are coming true as indeed it would undeed be Aerolíneas Argentinas and the Government would issue complementary citizenship to all legitimate inhabitants of the islands.  Therefore All Argentinians would be allowed to use the white card, and only foreigners would be required to use a passport. (Chileans and other residents of other Latin countries of course could use their national identification cards.)

    #53
Islander, your comments are exactly why there has been no progress on negotiations. You find too many technical and picky details that really reflect a negative attitude of finding solutions.

Trunce, you're right, but due to current economical difficulties, it is not as cost effective as acquiring the refurbished Tu-154s which are being offered at very reasonable costs without using valuable hard currency.

The misinformed doubters of the the new Tu-404s don't seem to get it through their thick heads that the Argentinian economy will be again one of the world's greatest and at that time, AA will be in the financial position to purchase the new super jumbo.

Also, just because its not being openly publicized, doesn't mean it's not in it's final development stages. Even Boeing is secretly working to develop a new cunard airliner similar to the Tu-404 concept and keeping their mouths shut about it.

“Boeing’s much proclaimed future commercial airliner project, the Sonic Cruiser. The underlying impression was that the Mach 0.98 aircraft is nothing more than a smokescreen for a totally different design in the 250-seat range with a changed appearance to that currently put out by the Seattle giant. In fact, there was little on which to base such an assumption. Boeing continued to remain tight-lipped on the design.”

I'm really disappointed about the hostile negativity on both sides of this debate.

“I'm really disappointed about the hostile negativity on both sides of this debate.”

I'm not sure what you expect?
What point were you trying to make with your comments about Castro's wild proposal?

For a start, the aircraft you talk about are highly questionable - the aging and perhaps dangerous AA T-154's and then the entirely speculative 404's !!

The whole package sounds like a fantasy - and it's being out forward combined with a highly suspect pledge from a hostile government that is waging state-sponsored terrorism against other commercial carriers and British Commonwealth vessels with a publically stated goal of undermining or crippling the economy and viability of the Falklands.

I suppose we are being unreasonable...

Chicureo, can I quote you to look at this in more detail:

“The misinformed doubters of the the new Tu-404s don't seem to get it through their thick heads that the Argentinian economy will be again one of the world's greatest and at that time, AA will be in the financial position to purchase the new super jumbo. ”

There ARE no new TU404s, it doesn't exist, the project was started in 1991, no prototype has ever been built, it doesn't exist and never will.

“Also, just because its not being openly publicized, doesn't mean it's not in it's final development stages. Even Boeing is secretly working to develop a new cunard airliner similar to the Tu-404 concept and keeping their mouths shut about it.”

“Boeing’s much proclaimed future commercial airliner project, the Sonic Cruiser. In fact, there was little on which to base such an assumption. Boeing continued to remain tight-lipped on the design.”

This was news regarding a prototype being conceived around 2001, it was shelved in 2002.

Chicureo you are basically trying to fulfill a fantasy based on archived news on projects that literally didn't get off the ground, I'd give up dreaming if I were you.

It really does not matter how big, how great , how fast , how advanced a passenger plane is,

We think that Argentina should have no control or interest in flying anybody to the Falklands what so ever,
This has nothing what so ever to being negative or uncooperative,

    Its basic common sense,
    CFK cannot be trusted,
If it is not used in some tiny weenie way for the military,
It would be used as a threatening and bargaining tool,
    You all know it,
    And so do us,
    Leave things as they are,
If its not broken ,why break it.

Chicureo, it's all about economics, not vanity, Boeing/Airbus/Tupolev are not trying to be faster or higher, they are trying to be more efficient.

That is why Boeing cancelled the sonic cruiser in 2002 (after your article was penned) they instead developed the 787, this has had some teething problems but it definitely does exist and is flying today.

Chico- everything I pointed out is not actually picky detail - all happen to be standard legal facts!
As for why negotiations have never started? - Do please tell me:

WHO at the UN made a verbal and written off to the Arg President to sit down across the table from her Govt and start to discuss bilateral matters of mutual benfit?
Who also offerred to meet with her Foreign Minister recently in London for a 3-way meeting in the prescence of the British Foreign Minister?
When people who are on opposite side want to talk and communicate in a peaceful manner - you start talks with matter of mutual interest in areas where you are likley to be able to find agreement - as a means of Breaking-the-Ice and to at least start to try and build confidence and trust - both of which Arg has worked hard to succcessfully destroy since 2002.
Trouble is Arg has not the faintest clue about how to carry out Diplomacy.

#66 Troy, both you and several others question the viability of older aircraft, but I would remind you that there are several “outdated” airframes that are still considered very reliable. Air Koryo has been using the Tu-154 as the backbone of its fleet for decades! By the way, your direct service from the UK has been using old Lockheed TriStars that first flew over 43 years ago and were originally owned by PanAm.
And yes, the price will be cheaper than LAN as they will fly a shorter distance, and the equipment purchase cost of a refurbished 767 is far above a 154. Plus, islanders won't have to put up with obnoxious Chileans, who I can personally attest are always boasting how they have the better wine and certainly superior seafood than Argentina.
Regarding the 404. The ambassador Castro did say “eventually” and “future proposed fleet”

#64 I was really impressed with the video you posted. Sort of says it all about the reliability and comfort of Russian aircraft landing on icy runways. Thanks for posting.

Last I checked, you remain British territory as desired. Last time I checked, you have economic benefits over your EEZ. Both issues are non-negotiable and you hold the cards militarily.

@45 Impractical you say. Why? Take a look at the LAN Chile fleet. As of the latest info, the average age of its aircraft is around 5 years. Nice, modern, up-to-date aircraft. All the Airbus aircraft in the A320 “family” have a range around 3,700 miles, whilst the Airbus A340-300 has a range of 8,500 miles. Whilst Boeing ranges are between 7,000 and 10,000 miles. Now look at a map and tell me why a flight couldn't go around. Also, if you do some research, you'll find that the Tu154 is a very OLD aircraft. So old that Aeroflot have retired it. And the TU404. The only aircraft I can find with that designation were a super jumb0 designed to carry around 1,200 passengers, it only got as far as being a “concept”. and a fake. Just think about it. The largest airliner in the world, the Airbus A380, has a maximum capacity of 853 passengers. And airliners have to meet certain criteria. For instance, they have to fit on taxiways, without hitting nearby buildings and other aircraft. The have to be able to use boarding tubes (jetways). No, your Tu404 is pie in the sky. Probably the Martian sky.
@62 Reliable? How reliable? As of January 2011, there have been 110 serious incidents involving the Tu154 with 69 hull losses. And only 30 didn't involve fatalities.

My guess on this is that S America has more to lose if the LAN Chile flight got pulled

The Falklands would still be serviced from Ascension and also St Helena when the new airport is ready (assuming that it can take big jets). It would be a shame if links were cut with South America as the Falklands long history has never been isolationist - this has been forced on them by others who prefer to believe in a myth cooked up in the 1940's.

Fortunately Chile is sensible and could still fly to MPA avoiding Arg airspace but it would require more time and fuel and risk breaking “solidarity” with its “friendly” neighbour.

Yes the TU 154 is a tough aircraft suitable for unsophisticated and rough landing areas. Is this what Argentina's airfields are like ?
Mt.Pleasant's runway is up to international standards and can take wide bodied long-haul jets.
I have not checked this out, but I believe the TU 154 would fail noise and pollution requirements at European and USA airports.
The TU 404 is a joke as far as commercial production is concerned. There is no requirement for it by any current airline
now or in the immediate future.
    #100
The Comet paid the price for being the first in its field and the lessons learned were used by other aircraft manufacturers - mainly Boeing. It led to British built airliners being being strengthened far above requirements. The VC10's airframe has a life of three times that of a Boeing 707.

As to who invented what, most inventions have been based on work and thoughts from different sources. It is a pointless argument. The best definition is who actually made it work in a practical way.

Think accused “Anglos” of having an inferiority complex. I'm simply pointing out that we Brits (I'm not English) are proud of our achievements while not being blind to our failings. You accuse me of a lack of productivity when you know absolutely nothing about me. If you really are working on wind energy then good luck with that - God knows that Argentina will need the energy. Also you might consider coming to Western Europe where we also lead the world on wind energy.

As for the UK military, they are no threat to you at all. They are simply protecting the Falkland Islanders from anyone who would threaten them. Would you agree though that the current “suffering” of the Argentine people is not due to the UK military but to the Kirchner government?

Newtons achievements aren't yours Redrow. There is a reason forces are measured in Newton, not Redrows...

And the UK doesn't lead anything in the field of eolic energy. The Danes and the Swedes do, with Uruguay being the one nation that produces most of its percentual consumption from it.

Not all Danes can say it's their achievement.
Not all Swedes can say it's their achievement.
Not all Uruguayans can say it's their achievement.

The UK military invades nations in order to steal natural resources. This without a UN resolution. I have all reasons in the world to see them as a threat. Not against me perhaps, but against humanity.

Just as Faraday did good to humanity. And La Place. Fourier. Newton. Tesla. Watt. Ampere. von Siemens. Curie.
    No Redrows.

What were the Brits doing while the Romans were building aqueducts?
Not a fair question, is it?

    @114 & @116 @120 Stevie

You and your fellow trolls are the ones slagging off 'Anglos'.

By the way are YOU taking credit for developing eolic engery all by yourself? Shame on you!

Perhaps you are part of a team working for the development of eolic engery in your country, but no ONE person developed it.

By the way the British military don't make weapons. That would be defense contractors who employ SCIENTISTS. By the way what about the military in Argentina? They found new and creative ways of mudering unarmed people, didn't they?

And the fact that you don't understand that SIMPLE fact makes me believe that you are completely naive, stupid, brainwashed or all 3. It certainly doesn't give me any confidence that you can develop your own energy.

Most of the developments in history have been a by-product of war. That goes all the way back to when the 1st man picked up a rock and hit a 2nd man over the head. Hardly the fault of the 'British'. That's human nature.

When people make inventions or discoveries, it takes a certain type of person to connect the dots to understand why A affects B which leads to C and then to D. Like vaccinations. Not an invention, but a discovery. But Jenner was the 1st person to realise that milk maids didn't catch smallpox, because they had cowpox (vaccinia). He was the 1st person who realised that the mild cowpox virus could ramp up the immune system to protect against smallpox. Vaccinia from which we get the word Vaccine.

Same as gravity. Everybody knew that when you dropped something it fell to the ground, but no one could explain why, until Sir Issac Newton put his mind to it, and asked the question, then found the answer.

Redrow and others, such as myself, aren't taking credit for what others have done (unlike you appear to be) we are just pointing out what the British have given to the world.

You have yet to give us any answer to what Argentina has given the world. We're waiting....

I take credit for maximising the efficiency of machines developed by other people in other nations. Nothing more. And other people will maximise them even further.

Germany didn't invent the Diesel engine. Diesel did.

My point is that when most of these discoveries an inventions you are talking about were made, the South American nations didn't even exist as we know them today.
Just as the Romans developed a lot while you were in huts painting your faces.

It is hard to develop anything if you don't have the means to do so, and the fact that people are busy feeding their families doesn't mean the ability isn't there. There are far more important matters to take care of, sadly.
    Just like your painted faces.

I find it very sad indeed that your people are suffering but they are not suffering because of me, the UK or even the UK military - they are suffering because of who they choose to lead them. They want the wealth and long-term success of Europe but without having to go through the centuries of plague and graft and war and struggle that forged the industrial and scientific revolution here. (We in Europe forgot our own lesson a decade ago and spent what we had not earned - Northern Europe is currently unwinding this excess).

And yes Britain, Germany and Scandinavia (western europe like i said) are world leaders in developing renewables, but no this isn't my area so it is not due to me personally.

I think credit is being given where it's due.

Latam leads the worlds in a whole number of areas:

    Cowardice
    Laziness
    Deceit
    Dishonour
    Dishonesty
    Misplaced arrogance
    Corruption
    Humiliation
    Harbouring Nazis
    Defecating in post offices
    Playing the Victim
    Rewriting history
    Blaming someone else

    Etc etc etc.

Not racial differences Stevie, social differences. I am sure if you took an Argentine child out of Argentina and gave him an excellent education and opportunities to learn in some of the best Universities in the world, he could/would be no differently creative to a British child.

However, if you take that same Argentine child, and fill his head with ludicrous propoganda, send him to a shit school which preaches more dogma, teach him at home that laziness, cheating, or biting and blaming someone is the best way “to get on”, it's hardly surprising that that child isn't cracking the cure for cancer.

It's not a racial thing Stevie, it's a social thing, your posts (and Stinks) are absolute examples of why there is nothing of value invented in your two country's, it's your childish..“we were tricked”, “you're holding us back”, “it was the Junta”, “if only blah”.....PATHETIC.

Britains ills are our fault, Uruguays and Argentinas are their.

Sorry, back off topic again...but this argument from Stevie has made me chuckle..

The lack of innovation in Latam is due to the fact they “haven't had the opportunity” because 200 years of independence, massive natural resources and European populations has “held them back”.

    USA....cough
    Canada...cough cough
    Australia....cough cough
    south Africa...splutter
    New Zealand..cough

Nope, it's only Latam that tries to find an excuse, all the others took the massive opportunity given to them and have developed innovative, educated (ok not the Aussie Lol), and generally productive states which have many many clear examples of adding to the knowledge of mankind...but Latam was tricked, held back, it was the Anglos, the Juntas, the oligarchs, the boogie man.

Imagine a citizen from the US suggesting that their Ivy League Universities weren't a match for Oxbridge because they'd not had the opportunity.

In the 1850s, LATAm had the opportunity to exceed north America....and you all pissied away, and then you pissed it away again and again....and you continue to piss it away...

Why? I'm guessing it's someone else's fault LOL.

Ireland is subject in whole or in part for England from the year 1086, and the territory known as Ulster was detained by the British, populated by English and Scottish and a status today very similar to Malvinas (the Republic of Ireland, independent since 1921, claimed the return of Ulster). Very few know that 5,000 Irish were presented at the Argentine Embassy in Dublin offering as volunteers to fight on the Argentine side in 1982.”

It's nice to see that the Argentines know as little about Irish history as they do about Argentine history.

1086 there was no such country as Ireland just a bunch of warlords with their own little suzerainities and the invasion was by the Normans (read Norsemen - more Scandinavians) not the English
Ulster wasn't detained by the British they voted to remain part of the UK - If the truth be told the Brits would have rather handed them over but stuck to their promise to support NI.
The demand for the return of Ulster was removed from our constitution as part of the Good Friday Agreement

You will just have to settle for belonging to an inferior race, continue to be flabbergasted, contain your latent jealousy of being beyond the pale and looking in wistfully at God's chosen people - with apologies to the Jews. You were dealt a poor hand in life but by application, you may be able to join the human race 3d class if you apply yourself.
It's a heavy burden we Brits. have to bear dealing with the occupants (squatters ? ) of half civilized countries in ultima thule, but we can manage. We have even given you an example of what you can aspire to by looking at how the Falklanders govern themselves. No la campora, Toni whatsit or other mass demonstrations.

'I Don't Think' aka The Turnip In Chief aka The Biggest Liar On MP has on previous posts stated he left the families bird shit (Guano) factory in Chile to move to Chubut.

Perhaps they ran out of shit. But now he is in it up to his neck living in Chubut.

Given the other clues 'he bought a 1953 (I think it was) 'Russian Pilots Watch' which is actually of French design, the Ruskies buying the plant etc to make it (having put a hack in the mechanism for synchronizing) which would have been quite costly at the time.

Unless it was a gift I would imagine he needed to be 25 - 30 YO to be able to afford it. That puts him at 85 - 90 YO?

Given the ‘standard’ of his posts that is quite possible. He could of course have been lying: that is HIGHLY likely.

    TWIMC

    Inferiority complex symtoms…:

    • Success stories: Because inferiority complex sufferers believe that there is something wrong with them they build walls around them that prevents people from seeing their imaginary flaws. Such barriers can be: Impressive success stories, fame, power...etc.

    • Devaluing others: Usually an inferiority complex sufferer will be threatened whenever he considers anybody superior to him and in such a case the best defense mechanism he thinks about is trying to devalue that superior person at any cost.

    • Oversensitivity to criticism: People with inferiority complex have a real hard time dealing with criticism.

    • Excessive showing off: The reason for excessive showing off is that the inferiority complex sufferer assumes that everybody is looking down on him and thus he has to do a counter action to improve his perceived image.

    • Over compensation: One of the most common defense mechanisms inferiority complex sufferers use to hide their inferiority feelings is to act superior. Not only will those people act as if they are superior to others but they will also devalue anybody who doesn't treat them as if they were superior.

Conqueror: Oh, I agree that the LAN Chile fleet has modern, up-to-date aircraft.
Also, you could fly around Argentinean airspace, but honestly, look at the advantages that a direct Buenos Aires - “Port Stanley”  route would provide:
    1.  Lower Airfares.
    2. Faster access to international routes.
    3. Increased tourism to boost the islands economy.
    4. It's highly doubtful the aircraft would be a target of asset seizures.
    5. No longer having to put up with those obnoxious Chileans.
And yes, you are correct Conqueror that the Tu-154 is nearing the end of its commercial life, but again, I would like to remind you that the British are still using those old Lockheed TriStars to service the Atlantic route and there are still a number of countries that are still successfully using well maintained Tu-154s.  Aeroflot has retired it only because they . need to support the Russian aircraft industry by purchasing the new  Sukhoi Superjets 100 currently in production.
The Argentine government is facing some minor financial difficulties at the moment, but they are committed to helping the islanders by providing improved access to the mainland with a promise for even greater air service in the future. The creative acquisition of the three fully refurbished airliners is a practical and prudent solution, which Ambassador Castro has devised, which provides the solution.  As I said before, she has extensive knowledge of the commercial airlines business.
Finally, the originally proposed Tu-404 has nothing to do with the next generation new design wide body aircraft, which will be produced by Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association and still does not have an official name.  (similar story with the Boeing 787 dreamliner, which also did not have a name until well after starting production.)
Frankly, too much negative thinking on your part Conqueror.

Let me be very sincere with you.
Many former Tupamaros are quite upset with Pepe Mujica for his trade agreements that results in open mines and paper mills.
    It creates jobs, indeed.
But what people are upset about is that it also creates the use-and-throw society that has plagued the northern hemisphere for so long.
Peoples happiness does not depend on how many goods one can acquire.
I salute Cristina, for standing up against a force so big and fierce as the empire is.
    Because it is an empire.
And the throne is occupied by the multinationals.
You are a pawn, just like me. And while you and me discuss who is better than who at what and when, they fill their pockets with your money, and mine.
Not in pound sterlings or pesos uruguayos, but in our time.
Time used to be able to consume the stuff they present us with.

Pepe Mujica should indeed remember where he comes from. And so should Huidobro.

Some astute fellow may spot this and prove that you do not own one... Where is the etching:“Made in the USSR”? I think you have one of those Chinese knockoffs like the other poster's Seamaster.

“Toni Lopez from Resistencia Malvinas, who described the campaign against the cruise vessels calling in the Falklands a ‘success’”

That's the success where cruise liners have now dropped Argentina from their itinery? Tell that to the Argentine buinesses that have lost income.

The same way that for Argentina 1982 was a success because they managed to overcome a force of 80 Marines with several thousand troops, even though they were kicked off three months later.

The same way that if the scientific research mission off to South Georgia will be a success if their ship doesn't break down.

Toni Lopez Argentinians needs to wake up and smell the coffee-offering the opportunity for islandersto fly in clapped out Tu 154's rather than fly with LAN Chile (acknowledged as one of the BEST world airlines)in modern aircraft is the wrong approach.

And again, his language is laced with demands which he has no power to enforce-that justy makes him look a moron.

My friends and Argentine trolls take a look at this blog by an Argentine called rodrigo living in London I was amazed to read an Argentine with thoughts and a brain what shocked me most was his opinion on Alicia Castro's daughter is Castro married or is this young ladty the product of the mile high clib I wonder but it seems madame Castro as been quite a girl in nher earlier years the word SLAPPER comes to mind and I quote from Rodrigo
    Diplomatic Sex Appeal

Last but not least, the cultural message of reactive ‘regionalismo’ is wrong. No one cares and it is a bad attempt to glamorise misery. If you want to glamorise misery you need glamour and misery. I asked fresh, plum & authentic and they showed corny, insecure, smelly and lazy. The Ambassador should keep the parade of her daughter for private functions possibly in the Embassy because she is too young and does not have Pippa’s style. She comes across as an undereducated student desperate to get fucked and by She, I mean, the Argentine Republic.

Take a look at the full blog he's hardly a Castro fan it's quite entertaining as he points out Castro's lack of class.

Are these aircraft better than 767s?

    Or refurbished scrap challenge contenders?

Are the 'unimaginable benefits' offered to the Islanders better than they get at the moment or unimaginably worse than what they get now?

Ie it might be unimaginably good to an Argentine that their government would pay for them to study at University in the UK , all paid for, whereas for a Falkland Islander that is a common place reality.

“Pete, the idea is to provide a rapid solution to a very difficult temporary cash flow problem and service the islanders with better access to the outside world. They really seem sincere in this.”

Though not sincere enough to answer the letter that FIG sent to Argentina to discuss the matter?
This shows Argentine ignorance and insincerity that they did not even reply by saying

“ No thanks, we do not want to discuss the issue as we are racist against Falkland Islanders.”

So Argentina were not really serious about this proposal were they?

Just another crude, and not very intelligent proaganda exercise by Argentina.

Is the' cash flow problem' you mention needing to be solved, Argentina's or the Falkland Islander's problem?

    @260

Are you saying that the unimaginable benefits you stated were better links with the outside world?

That is a benefit arguably, but the word 'unimaginable' conjures up the idea that the benefits are so generous that it would be difficult for the islanders to turn them down.
The islanders already have links with the outside world, so offering them the chance to have them and being held to ransom as in the 1970s does not seem particularly appealing, as their relationship with the Chilieans is preferred.

”Any who indeed in the Argentine leadership is better qualified to decide aviation matters than Alicia Castro?”

I fail to see Alicia Castro's suitability as an ex-cabin attendant makes her qualified to comment on airlines.

    Or have I missed something?

    Is she:
    1/-A former pilot?
2/-A former Director of Civil Aviation?
    3/-Has she owned an airline?
4/-Has she been the operations manager of an Argentine Airline?

Headline:  Aerolineas Argentinas will reopen direct flights to the Malvinas Islands.   Wednesday, 29 April 2013
Argentinian Consul General Ricardo Bocalandro noted that his national flag carrier,  Aerolineas Argentinas has signed agreements to purchase three recently refurbished all weather passenger jets to service the new rout Argentinas will utilise new Airbus aircraft to service the route by the third or fourth quarter of 2013.
“Aerolineas Argentinas has historically provided an airlink to Buenos Aires and we're happy again to do so.“ said the Aerolineas Argentinas sales manager Sergio Gomez .
“We currently plan three direct flights per week from Jorge Newberry to Mount Pleasant Buenos Aires, with several convenient domestic and international connections providing convenience for customers and enhancing  the quality of the Islanders lives.  It was also noted ”That since they will be considered domestic flights, there will be no visa requirements for islanders to travel to Argentina,” Argentinian Consul General Ricardo Bocalandro said.
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has in the past sought negotiations with the United Kingdom to establish several weekly flights from Buenos Aires to the Falkland Islands and she is very pleased with the planned outcome.
Roger Edwards, the British-controlled islands' legislative chairman, was unavailable for comment.
Fernandez recently told Argentine legislators that direct flights by the state-owned airline Aerolineas Argentinas would show the world her country's intentions towards the islands, known as las Malvinas in Argentina, were peaceful

But let's see it for what it is.

A garrulous mouthed, pony tail wearing, argie cuelo, who has not achieved anything of any merit in his life.

This is his chance to demonstrate to the world, well The Dark Country anyway, what he is capable off.

    Let us list his attributes:

    1) Wears a pony tail. Remember what the Irish lad said what you find when you lift a ponies tail? An horses arse, otherwise known as shit for brains;

    2) Has a can of spray paint. That puts him head and shoulders above the usual thug who only has a knife: he can blind the mugs he robs BEFORE he knifes them and runs away;

    3) Has mates who own dish towels to hide their faces in consideration of the public if they are as ugly as Gorgeous ‘Toni’;

    4) These mates of his are very good at smashing black plastic bags to bits with a bit of wood instead of just opening the top;

    5) Has motor skills that enable him to play ‘walkies’ with the first two fingers of his right hand on a glass table. I suspect he is a La Campora physical training officer who is honoured to teach the others how to use more than one finger of one hand when they type their crap during their shift at ‘promoting the Legend of TMBOA;

I could of course talk about the brave victorious veterans of the Falklands World War and how they single handedly drove the British from the Islands: but it would all be bollocks just as everything else is about this bunch of twats.

Let be clear what the definition of Terrorism is, you can then make your own mind up about 'Resistencia Malvinas'...

'Terrorism is the systematic use of terror, often violent, especially as a means of coercion. In the international community, however, terrorism has no legally binding, criminal law definition.[1][2] Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those violent acts which are intended to create fear (terror); are perpetrated for a religious, political or, ideological goal; and deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants (civilians). Some definitions now include acts of unlawful violence and war. The use of similar tactics by criminal organizations for protection rackets or to enforce a code of silence is usually not labeled terrorism, though these same actions may be labeled terrorism when done by a politically motivated group. The writer Heinrich Böll and scholars Raj Desai and Harry Eckstein have suggested that attempts to protect against terrorism may lead to a kind of social oppression.[3][4]
The word “terrorism” is politically and emotionally charged,[5] and this greatly compounds the difficulty of providing a precise definition. Studies have found over 100 definitions of “terrorism”.[6][7] The concept of terrorism may be controversial as it is often used by state authorities (and individuals with access to state support) to delegitimize political or other opponents,[8] and potentially legitimize the state's own use of armed force against opponents (such use of force may be described as “terror” by opponents of the state).Terrorism has been practiced by a broad array of political organizations to further their objectives. It has been practiced by both right-wing and left-wing political parties, nationalistic groups, religious groups, revolutionaries, and ruling governments.[10] An abiding characteristic is the indiscriminate use of violence against noncombatants for the purpose of gaining publicity for a group, cause, or

I have seen the other side of the Lada, a colleague of mine bought one when they first came onto the UK market When I heard him pull up, I thought he was driving a tractor. However, the price was good and although it got you from A to B, it was not a nice car to drive and very heavy on fuel.
The crunch came 3 months later, the gearbox seized when he was driving through town. This wrecked the transmission and damaged the engine beyond economic repair. His next folly was a Ford Capri - a sheep in wolves clothing. Enough said !
It was not until the Japanese built factories in the UK that build quality soared. When the first lines of Nissans were produced, they were highly sought after in Japan as they were better built than the Japanese versions.

Don't get me wrong. Some of the British cars that were available during the 70's were just beautiful and they had class. But they seemed to residide in a garage until we could get new parts as they broke down constantly. after the UP in Chile, we had access to Japanese cars and the rest is history. The South Koreans are doing a great job as well. When I lived in America (Norte) I loved driving around in those big monsters, but they only do well in countries where fuel is cheap.

Why would they be biased? In what way?

Their clients are looking for an opportunity for trade or to invest to make money.

Surely, they will report in the best interests of their clients, and if they see potential threats or problems, those will be identified as a risk and a reason to proceed/invest with caution, or not at all.

On the other hand, Argentina is much more biased, desperate for capital, and trade, their economy is in jeopardy andd they will only promote themselves. Certainly no mention of the downsides.

The last “British ” car I owned was a Morris Minor Traveler with a 1098cc engine - way back in 1971. Parts were cheap and repairs were easy. I even took the cylinder head off to repair a burned out valve. This was in the open air, 60 miles from the nearest garage with only a set of ring spanners to do the job. It took 3 hours and worked fine after it. After that I owned 4 Renaults until I bought a Nissan Primera ,Virtually no problems with it and I gave it to my son at 125,000 miles. He had it until he bought a LWB Land Rover. I then bought another Primera and currently drive a Toyota Avensis 2.0 Diesel. Suburu's are well made cars but expensive to run in the UK. Insurance is high, fuel consumption is high and taxing it is dear because of high CO2 emissions.
As a matter of interest, motoring costs in the UK are high.
The average cost of taxing and insuring a vehicle would be around £500 at best and it could be much, much more depending on the vehicle, your age and where you live.
Fuel costs in the UK are about £1.32 a litre for petrol and £1.36 a litre for diesel.

French carrier to escape defense cuts
France is to cut another 24,000 defense posts by 2019
This is on top of the 54,000 between 2008 and 2015
But the carriers will remain; it’s very old and dilapidated.

Full marks Think, but I was referring to cars, which if regarding pickups, I should also add the VW, Toyota and Ford brands to.

“I wonder if the USA is building a case against CFK?”

Actually, that might not be such a bad idea. In fact I can't understand why KFC and her fat moronic son haven't been arrested and hauled up in front of some court and made to explain why they just happened to be so rich all of a sudden...... After all, no one should be above the law, Right???

I mean, no country would stand for having an overtly corrupt President in charge would they? Some one who, let's say, for the the sake of argument, diverted money that was supposted to be for improving / repairing the railway network into her own bank account which then caused a fatal train crash........?

No one would stand for that would they?

What I'm saying is that no one would want a leader who only concern after winning an election was to “look after number one” right?

Imagine the supprise and the shock if “The people” found out that their leader had been stealing off them all these years??? Corrupt Politicians?? who would have guessed, right?

TMBOA is going to rely on the likes of “Gorgeous Toni” (still a womans name) more and more to attempt to keep the populace in line. It will work for a while then there may be carnage.

I wonder if the method of her “leaving” has been decided yet by the real power in AR, the mafia.

A typical Argentine statement - can't say anything produced by foreigners is good unless you say the pieces were put together by Argies.

Like those planes... all 100% made in Argentina,

ahhh except for the ejector seats

    er, and the engines

    um, maybe landing gear too

but the sum total is great - a design from the 80's

Your list forgets one major travel DISadvantage - one that I take in to account when I fly nationally, let alone globally and I am rather surprised that noone else seems to get this:

Aerolineas ~~barely~~ belongs to Skyteam; like AeroMexico, it cannot project metal to their mother hub at Schipol (heck, even freakin Garuda can get there!). At best both are passive members of the alliance. And overall, Skyteam having backed a dead horse with AA, underplayed Africa and totally eff-ed up in Oceania has royally botched southern hemisphere market viability.

As such, logically and logistically, the optimal (but not shortest) way to go commercial to the UK from the FI is through British Airlines -- i.e., OneWorld. Slumming with AA means one hell of a lost leg and lost miles on an nationalized (and mismanaged) airline that is pathologically hostile and contemptuous to the Islanders. But who else is part of BA's alliance and who has codeshares and miles sharing agreements? That would be Lan, making them the natural partner for the UK-bound traveler as well as one with business in other SA countries not just because of their continued national pride in making their Dirty War the Islanders problem. This makes having an extra miles accruing segment (AWAY from a country that continues to masterbate at the thought of standing on the Islanders necks like they did briefly in 82) somewhat (and maybe more than somewhat) worth it.

Maybe the frequent flyer program is substandard, but they still currently plan three direct flights per week from Jorge Newberry to Mount Pleasant, with several convenient domestic and international connections providing convenience for customers and enhancing  the quality of the Islanders lives.  It was also noted ”That since they will be considered domestic flights, there will be no visa requirements for islanders to travel to Argentina,” Argentinian Consul General Ricardo Bocalandro said.

I just CANNOT see this half-arsed idea getting off the ground (see what I did there) if only for the fact the FIG quite rightly will want passport controls and may even set up a visa system considereing it is the belligerent argies we are talking about. It does not matter what the Consul General says, he is from a system that consistently tells lies about the history of the Falklands.

And ANYTHING operated and maintained by AA will be a one way ticket sooner or later.

Once the Falklands become dependent on their enemies, what then?

Chile has reached out a hand of friendship when it was needed. Now, they'll be discarded for short- lived convenience before Argentina starts playing games again ?

Looks like a bad idea, leaving yourselves vulnerable.

I would ask if you think Chilé might get their noses out of joint.

There are some things that are too painful to joke about, one is that one about CFK “... enhancing the quality of the Islanders lives...”

That is possibly the most frightening thing I've seen written!!!!!

@367 (Pardon while I annex MercoPress in the name of Flyertalk.com), it's not about the FF program, it's about its ability to transfer perks between other carriers. AA may be perfectly fine if you are staying regional near AR. It's probably better for the AR families wanting who don't fly much otherwise to visit the graves caused by AR's failed Hail Mary move to retain the Junta. But the Islanders self-identify as British as is their rights. I can't speak for FI flyers and clients of FI industry but I'll make a S.W.A.G. and suspect they'd rather fly BA or at least gain and retain BA/OW perks for the long distances they have to fly. I know I do when *I* fly (which is why for me, except for when I lived in Australia, Skyteam, Aerolineas's alliance, is my family's alliance since it gets me out of town and home faster and easier than my local alternatives) AND we have good status on them and the perks that go with them.

But back to Mercopress.... You are missing the point. You are forgetting that the Argentines lost their illegal war of aggression and illegal occupation and the Islanders control their own lives now. Islanders may not want AA. They may want LAN. That is all that matters. Buenos Aires can make claims about their plans and pretend that they won their dirty war and have a say in entry requirements on Islands like they did when they held guns to the people's heads. But the FIG, from whom they run away like silly kindergartners fleeing the cooties of self-determination, are the ones to call the ball on this.
