Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro said he is prepared for political dialogue with the leader of the opposition Henrique Capriles to ensure peace in the country, even if it means “talking to the devil”. He also warned that United States must “give a huge leap forward” if relations as equals are to be advanced between Caracas and Washington. Read full article

No amount of Mercosur support will save Cockoo Head, he has to follow Chavist principles in demonizing the opposition & making them out to be traitors to the cause. Any dialogue or concessions to Capriles will be a show of weakness from Mad..uro & then the real power in Venezuela.........the military will take over!!!

Good for Maduro, a pragmatist but not a pushover, can't say I'm too surprised either =)

@2 “any advance in that field must begin by Washington respecting Venezuela as an equal.” Hahahahahahaha. At what point in time or evolution would Venezuela be the equal of the United States? Venezuela has one thing. Oil. Outside of that, it has nothing. No proper economy. No freedom. No democracy. Chavez liked poverty. It made the peasants “compliant”. In a “proper” country, someone like Chavez would have used oil revenues to improve the lot of the people. Instead of buying pointless Russian combat aircraft.

It is amazing to me how democracy is going “backwards” in Latin America. Maduro is a totally discredited populist the same as his “padrino” Chávez.

Simón Bolívar must be turning over in his grave. What a disgrace!

Demonizing the USA and the official Opposition in Venezuela is just SO bad tactically.

Maduro is making all the 'Politics 101' mistakes ...
.. no, that implies he has basic understanding and qualifications.
Though I'm sure he must have them, I see no evidence yet of either an education or an understanding of the principles of government.

Dilma is RIGHT to insist on reversal of the Maduro demonizations.
For this is no way to run his own country,
and, when Maduro takes over South America's biggest trade bloc, it will 'sink with all hands' the leaky ship that we call Mercosur.
