Brazil’s industrial output fell 2% in May after jumping a revised 1.9% in April, the national statistics agency announced this week in Rio de Janeiro. The fall was greater than forecasted but still was 1.4% above a year ago. However as the government or President Dilma Rousseff struggles to fight inflation, the latest data complicates the strategy to prop growth. Read full article

I seem to remember last year when I posted Brazil wasn't going to have much if any growth this year some of the Rg idiots ask if I was smarter than the economists.

    Apparently the answer is yes.

Well world cups, Olympic games disproportionate armed forces budgets and oil exploration are very expensive, but then so are good public services and infrastructure.

The number one rule of good housekeeping is that you don't go shopping when you are hungry, you end up buying things that you don't need and can't afford.

    Oh Maggie we miss you.

1 . You are right , one of the few who warned that all was not well with Brazil .In retrospect one does begin to see the light . The Economist some months ago suggested that Rousseff change her Finance Minister since he was giving incorrect positive forecasts . Then Petrobras not allowed to increase prices for political reasons . So share price collapsed . Vale chairman ousted since he wanted to invest outside Brazil due to poor home economy . Infrastructure a mess -- ports , highways , airports and others . Now unable to ship out a huge soy crop .
One only hopes they get their act together before the World Cup and the Olympics.

Brazil needs to fight custo Brazil with estructural reforms and maybe the protests do help to get politicians working on it. But it´s understable if they wan´t to take care first of stabilizing their economy. World Cup and Olympics will get done unless something really serious happens I don´t see those events being done elsewere, it also would not be good news for Brazil´s people or goverment, I just hope those sports events do help their turism industry.

Brasil appears not to understand that in order the pay for things that are not already budgeted for, other things already in the budget need to be cut back OR the result will be debt.

    As Dickens put it:
Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen pounds and six, result happiness.
Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pound ought and six, result misery.

Not at all difficult to understand, is it?

Anyone going to the world cup next year? No security concerns in Brazil - if you like the referee's head on a spike in the middle of the field.

@ 10 Idlehands: And an extremist slaughtered a person in London just a few weeks ago. So what!?

How many tourists were victims of crimes during Confederations Cup!? If any suffered an assault it passed unnoticed.
