Academics from the British Army Officer School, Sandhurst, presented a course in Counter Insurgency Operations in Santiago to members of the Chilean military, special forces and intelligence, reports the Foreign Office.

Dr Chris Mann and Dr Peter Leib, academics from RMAS Sandhurst (British Army Officer School), presented a course in Counter Insurgency Operations on the week of 29 July – 2 August. This activity was organized as part of the ongoing efforts to reinforce and strengthen the close ties between the British and Chilean Ministries of Defense.

Additionally, on the week of 5-12 August, Dr Arron Edwards and Dr Edward Flint will be presenting a Conflict Management Course as part of a wider, very active, bilateral agenda carried out between both countries.

The courses are taking place at the National Academy for Political and Strategic Studies (ANEPE) for 20 students from the Chilean Ministry of Defense, the National Intelligence Agency (ANI), Carabineros Police and from the Army, the Navy and the Air Force, concludes the release.

I cannot help but wonder just how much information/techniques etc that would be useful against their neighbor (RGland) they imparted?

I would have thought that he Prussian-inspired Chilean Army might be the ones giving the lessons, following the brilliant successes of the Blairmacht in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last decade, and 20 years of stalemate in Northern Ireland, as well as the shining success in Cyprus prior to independence.
