Well done Uruguay- as Arg continues to fail and drives cruise ships away from Buenos Aires - you gain.

Just great to hear that the companies are considering Colnia as a stop. Its a great place and no flags get burnt or passengers insulted. If passengers really want to go to BA, thats only an hour away by fast ferry

Good moves and a bright future for 2013/14.

I remain very concerned about the price rises in the country when we know that last year one of the main gripes from the visitors was the prices of everything.

Let's hope things improve this year but without the government shedding it's hangers on to reduce the fiscal drag on the economy I can't see how.

Nah, Chris, Uruguay is luxury nature with 1st class meat... I say full price plus extra for lost taxes. That lot can afford it and if they want discount, tell them to try at Harrods...

    Stevie

You know I lived in Britain for 65 years and never knew that the USA had a branch of Harrods? You DO realise that the majority of the visitors are Americans, don’t you?

Which are the lost taxes you are posting about?

The thousands of USD each of the cruisers pay in fees?

The vast overprice Chinese crap that some shops sell in Punta. These are overpriced partly because Maldonado Intendencia charges an arm and a leg in tax?

The overpriced bunkering fuel in MVD due to the overpricing by ANCAP? 100% owned by the ROU to screw everybody who has to use fuels in this country. You do realise that these twats with Pepe’s agreement have put most fuels up by almost 10%. And that this catches out the poor people, you know the ones who are socially included who now have to pay UYU$ 416 for a 13Kg bottle of Supergas?

Or would it be the taxes lost because you don’t live here, even though you are a Tupo acolyte you don’t pay income tax here?

Sticks and stones Stevie will break your bones just as sure as words will if put over in the correct way.

    @ 9 Stevie

No, I think I will start using “Tup”.

You do know what a tup is don't you? It's perfect in the circumstances.

But Chris, you can call the Tupas whatever you wish, it will have no impact on anything at all whatsoever.

I'm just letting you know what the real name is...

”the lost taxes appear when the buy free shop... ;)“

Not really true that is it? Especially when you consider that for two years running Pepe has removed certain taxes like IVA for the argies who visit Uruguay.

Everyone else, including the ”socially included“ and the REAL poor who WANT to work but cannot get a job because Pepe cannot get his head around what is needed, have to continue paying as before.

So what about your recent little gem ”the right to a job“ then? Doesn't that work in Uruguay as well?

Of course it works if you want a job with the ”government” working for a pittance, which explains why all the street sweepers you see have 10 minutes working and 10 minutes smoking for a work regime.

But a REAL job that helps the economy, and the job holder AND takes them out of Social Inclusion: NO!
