Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff is speeding up her re-election campaign trying to drop the ‘technocrat-no nonsense’ and ‘people distant’ attitudes which have been some of the main complaints about a nevertheless loveable leader. Read full article

    She is the President of Brazil, the United States or is the Queen of England?

    It seems that the guerrillas did not stop their acculturation.

    That way I will not be able to vote on Dilma, because Dilma is able to change the official language of our Federation.

    Anyway, it was a very beautiful child.

    Dilma is clearly in love with the freedom you experience on a motorcycle; however her choice is a very poor one.

    HOGS are overweight for the available power and handle abysmally. The brakes border on being dangerous. It is very easy to get into trouble on a motorcycle especially with the very low standard of driving ability in SA.

    Many modern machines have excellent, large double disc brakes on the front and a single disc on the rear controlled by ABS which prevent straight ahead skids (and corresponding loss of control) especially useful for an inexperienced rider who panic brake at their first “impending crash” thus turning it INTO a crash. My machine can go from zero to 100 kph (62.1 mph) and back to zero in 4.0 seconds in total control.

    I hope Dilma takes time to look at what is available and has an advisor who knows more than the HOG rider to assist her.

    Oh don't be such an old woman, Chris! I'd rather share the road with Hogs on the way to Sturgis than with sport bike “Hollywood Stuntz” hoons OR an armada of lane-discpline-deficient soccer moms in SUVs who never drive 'em in dirt nattering away on their cell phones. Whether that makes qualified to be president is a totally different topic of discussion though...

    Lesbians love motorcycles, after she became president she can have any one with public money. Next step will be riding her (his?) bike smoking a cuban cigar!

    @ 3 GFace

    So I take it that either:

    1) You have never ridden a motorcycle, OR;
    2) Have never ridden anything other than HOGs, AND:
    3) You have never passed a UK Police Force (or equivalent) advanced motorcycle course, AND;
    4) Not had to attend a coroners court to testify what you saw when a young man killed himself on a motorbike, AND;
    5) Do not recognise genuine, experienced based concern for a fellow human being?

    Sorry to be an old woman, who is still alive after FIFTY ONE years of motorcycling.

    PS WTF has my comment got to do with the clowns on sports bikes? I can understand you wanting to mix it with HOGS, after all they cannot pull away from a half-decent car.

    @5, Oh Lighten UP, Chris.

    It's also sounding like that US bike culture (Harleys, not Yamahas, Kawasakis and the rest of the “fast” bikes -- we have a very strong split between the two species here, wrt, the attitudes of the riders AND how they are perceived by people in cars) is not the same as it is on the UK (or maybe even Australia where I lived for a while and noted that the bike scene is dominated by “hoon” culture). [Similarly it also looks like you aren't aware of recent Lien sports-bike attack in NY which is getting heavy condemnation from the mature US biking community most notably from Harley clubs.] I'll never deny that biking has a greater risk than being in a car, even discounting irresponsible auto drivers who don't check their blind spots even when they aren't texting, and I have no quarter for the organ donors who scoff at helmets. But I recognize the lionshare of responsible riders who have chosen to take risk that entails riding a motorcycle and in exchange, also take the responsibility to share the road, train, follow the same rules as cars, are more situationally aware than many auto drivers, drive responsibly, are quite reciprocally friendly to their fellow motorists (hell I've had two secretaries in my career who are Sturgis regulars) and are a very different animal than the dumb kids who ride fast bikes dangerously and hopefully checked the organ donor card on their licenses - if of course they have them.

    As for Dilma, I have disagreements with her but, I find it pleasantly hilarious that the old lady likes motorcycles. If she takes it up, I wish her luck, safe driving and better choices on the road than when she was in in office.

    Give it up Gface. You are arguing a point with the Great Oz, the world renown economist, politician, diplomat, military strategist, sociologist and not to exclude psychologist....the general all knowing ex-pat in ........Paraguay. Besides Gface, you're arguing with him about ...... an American bike.

    I really don't think Dilma is a diesel dyke.

    If Dilma wants to cruise around on a Harley I say go for it! Being Brazilian she might want to change her playlist - why not some Sepultura?

    If you want a bike that's reliable, on the leading edge technologically and can change the time/space continuum get a Jap bike. If you want to sound like Patton rolling into Germany a Harley will definitely do the job. If you want both charisma and performance though - get a Ducati...

    “If you want a bike that's reliable, on the leading edge technologically and can change the time/space continuum get a Jap bike.”....“If you want both charisma and performance though - get a Ducati” Spot on!

    “If you want to sound like Patton rolling into Germany a Harley will definitely do the job.” But who supported Patton while he was grandstanding?

    Captain Poppy: I am not the Great Oz: was he not American when it came to the end of the film? And have another guess where I live, clue: it's NOT Paraguay - but you know that, don't you?

    BTW does America MAKE a great bike, I can't think of one? Answers on a postage stamp to Captain Poppy who has clearly NEVER ridden any bike.

    Only Ossa 250 dirt as a teen. Motorcycles have the same appeal as the clapp for me. My opinion and the only one that matters Oz.

    You are all wrong....she enjoyed the cruising, she doesn't need a superbike she needs a decent cruiser....
    Forget the Harley .....a bag of bolts....vibration..no cornering a death trap on wheels!
    Forget the Jap stuff....has beens.....
    There's a new kid on the block....
    The next bike I'm going to trade my Bonneville for......
    Triumph Thunderbird Storm.....
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/motorcycle_manufacturers/triumph/8473678/Triumph-Thunderbird-Storm-review.html

    I'm no stranger to superbikes came off a FZR1000 Exup ....I was slowing down for a roundabout and high sided at 90 mph as I was coming out of it....
    Compression fracture of the first and second lumbar..(broken back)
    This bike was capable of 170 mph and 0-60 in less than 3 seconds...Dilma doesn't need a bike like that.....
    It didn't dampen my enthusiasm but I no longer ride anything with drop handle bars.....
    A Bonne and a SuperMoto (DRz 400) is what I have now....haha the SuperMoto is crazy....basically a street legal MotoCross.....;-)))))

    Chris, Harley's are perfectly good bikes - the technology may be old but it still works fine and they are much more refined and better made than they were. Not everyone wants to risk whiplash everytime they hit the throttle, nor does everyone aspire to be the next Sheene, Rossie or Stoner. They do what they're designed to do and lets face it - if you want to make an entrance....

    @12 A_Voice

    My brother had an FZ750 - I think it was the first one with 5 valves per cylinder. Scary freakin' thing. He came off it on a bend and his progress was ended by a road sign. Snapped both of his legs. He recovered and eventually got back on a bike. Also a Yamaha. I've also been on the back of an FZR 1000 at about 220k's. Great bikes.

    GUYS!

    You are all forgetting one thing.

    With the exception of the HOG when you twist the grip you chuck more fuel into the engine (and it goes faster) AND when you turn it back, LESS.

    It's called SELF-CONTROL and works wonders with how long you live.

    My bike can do 150 mph (240 kph) without trying. Apart from the IB the speed limit in Uruguay is 56 mph (90 kph). This bike is so safe at the speed I ride and that is why I chose it.

    BTW I loved this about the Harley:
    “if you want to make an entrance....” well, yes, if you want to look like an idiot.

    In the UK these things RUST within 12 months: all the fasteners and most of the “chrome”. My friend has had three of these things but no more. He wants to keep the bike looking “good” and spends a fortune each time he buys a new one putting stainless fasteners and whatever else needs changing onto it AND still he has problems. The latest thing has filiform corrosion under the paint! Disgraceful.
