TMBOA was hoping to recover her (ha, ha, ha) sanity with her month long shopping spree but has now come down to earth with the realisation that the Brits are taking over SA!

    Ha, ha, ha.

Perhaps the time is right to remind everyone that, 'the subsequent development of International Law in regard to non-self-governing territories, as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, made the principle of self-determination applicable to all of them.' - UN ICJ Advisory Opinion of 21st June 1971.

    Comprende?

For the UK the Falklands are not an issue so it won't be raised. The UK doesn't need the acquiescence or support of other countries. It has the sovereignty. It is legally recognised in international law and by the EU and UN.

As all PA members have an FTA with the EU, this is more about deepening ties in the business, scientific and government areas.

“Chilean Foreign Affairs Minister Alfredo Moreno has said that the UK has been granted Observer Status of the Pacific Alliance”

See? I always knew that the continued friendship with Chile would pay dividends, and here they are repaying our kindness in spades!!

The sweetest part of this is knowing that there is going to be lots and lots of outrage from just across the border, a lot of finger pointing and name calling but you know what? TMBOA can not do a damn thing about it.

This is further proof, if any were needed, that the UK IS the most influential country in the world.

Dear oh dear, your racism shines through. It is indeed gratifying that Britain is forging new links, keeping calm and carrying on, in fact it's a double whammy because invertebrates like you are fuming.

Brazil isn't in the Pacific Alliance so so it's not part of 'your world'.

Brazil, as a member of Merosur, is however pushing for FTA status with Europe so is in fact attempting to belong to 'our world'.

    You sir, are a MORON!

@6 At the rate you're going, in the near future, you won't be in any world. It is totally amazing that people like you think you can shut off part of the world. You don't have enough clout. Doesn't Brazil have ambitions to have a permanent seat on the UN Security Council? No chance. Too insular. Too selfish. The permanent members of the Security Council are those who put their whole countries and futures on the line to defeat the dictatorships of the 30s and 40s. And Brazil has done what for whom?
    @8 So?

What a bizarre statement. You may not have noticed but there is only one world, this one; in which all countries have a place. Many of your compatriots disagree. There are well over 100,000 Brazilians living here in London, so many in fact they even have their own magazine, called REAL. Furthermore Southwark park in South East London plays host to the annual South American Summer festival, a joyous event full of food music and dance.

It's also a bit difficult for us Europeans to stay way froom “your world” when Brazil is playing host to both the World Cup and the Olympics.

@18 Ah yes, but Europeans should stay away from the World Cup and Olympics. Have you seen the murder rate in Brazil? Those 54 inch widescreen tvs are wonderful. How many Europeans that travel to Brazil for these events will return? All very well helping 3rd-world countries, but is it worth your life? Want to help a 3rd-world country? Buy a nut. And, back @6 & 8, there is one. And will probably cost less than a return air-ticket to Rio, part unused, plus accommodation, all unused. After all, is there a GUARANTEE you will make it from the airport to the hotel? And if you don't make it, you will collect on the guarantee....how?

Ooops! What will the ALBA Pacific countries of Nicaragua and Ecuador think of this? Especially the anti British President Correa of Ecuador? I applaud the good sense of the host countries and also the determination of the UK to get more involved in trade relations with Latin America.

Holand, Germany and Italy also joined as observers along with UK. The Pacific Alliance has now over 25 observers from Europe, Asia and America including China and USA. From this oberver group Costa Rica almost is done getting recognized as a member of the PA along with Panama. So far Pacific Alliance has made good progress, lest hope it keeps adding concrete steps that help regional integration and closer ties with Asia.

@21 Forgetit86 You are, of course, referring to Argentina surely? “Queen” Cristina(la Kretina) has just got her way viz a viz press control, hasn't she?

@21 Thank you for drawing attention to that article. It's difficult to see more conclusive proof that Miranda is a terrorist, anarchist and criminal. Now that leads to the identification of the status of Greenwald. Is he stupid, equally culpable or just Miranda's bum-boy? Not “just Miranda's bum-boy”. That would be “Miranda's bum-boy as well”. And from Brazil. A state desperate for “intelligence”. That it doesn't have because it's not trustworthy.

I don't know about Brazil, but the reason Argentina wants nothing to do with the UK, or anyone else, is quite eloquently displayed in the first 24 responses of this article.

What country in their right ucking mind would want “friendly relations” with the people above, distillating vitriol and foam at your very existence?

The world is bigger than these threads Nostrils. Being so young and trapped in Mendoza with no way to actually go anywhere physical or career-wise, you obviously have difficulty gaining perspective.

So glad in your inability to actually argue that you included Brasiliero and Forgetit86 in your weak post.

As for Argentina having nothing to do with the UK, why does it keep trading then? It can stop anytime it wants.

    @26

Have we done anything to encourage it? Whatever trade is left is leftover from the time we humiliated ourselves in the 1990s trying to win them over, and we got slap after slap in the face.

A good slap is what someone prone to histrionics usually needs.

It's alright, I am sure Argentina will repeat the mistakes from the past again and again and again.

Indeed, Argentina is so busy face-planting these days that it is difficult to get a good slap in edgewise.

And for you comment I see you as a fool, or at least someone who has at their core seeing in good favour any action detrimental towards Argentina.

Argentina defends its economy from the onslaught of subsidized Euro/North-Am material, or the 5 cent wage material from LatAm/China, and you call that histrionics?

So apparently, the only action Argentina can take in order not to sound “histrionic” is to just open its legs wide and tell you and the others to bring some garden tools with pointy objects. To do nothing to protect itself from a flood of product that would lead to 60% unemployment.

    Nov 19th, 2013 - 02:09 am - Link - Report abuse 0
  • Anglotino

Yes but who protects Argentina from itself?

Hmmm I wonder why so many other countries can avoid this dastardly fate that awaits poor innocent Argentina? Pray tell, how do countries like Chile, Peru, Colombia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Korea, Singapore, Norway, Sweden, Germany do it I wonder?

You don't wonder. So enjoy your persecution complex. It goes great with a sea-green jumper.
