Representatives from Falkland Islands Holidays and International Tours and Travel travelled to London last week to attend ‘Experience Latin America’. Cathy Jacobsen (ITT) and Jenny Luxton (FIH) were both pleased with the level of interest expressed in the Falklands at the three day trade to trade event for the travel industry.
The event was organized by LATA and is the first travel event of its kind to be held in London.
Ms Luxton said they had experienced tremendous interest in the Falklands from both new and established tour operators and agencies, from the UK, Sweden, Netherlands, Italy, and agencies that represent Latin America that wish to add the Falkland Islands to their itineraries.
The Falkland Islands were also promoted substantially in a five page article in the trade publication ‘Selling Long Haul’, which was given to all attendees’ and is distributed to all UK travel trade professionals.
“I was delighted to see the great buzz and energy within the various rooms with lots of conversation, interaction, meetings and networking amongst suppliers and buyers, which is just fantastic,” said Ms Luxton.
Miss Jacobsen explained that inserted amongst the 30 or so pre-scheduled appointments were a series of seminars covering topical issues such as, “Why adventure travel is essential to the future of tourism in Latin America.”
“Keeping your clients safe: how to minimize your risk,” and “Growing Niche Markets in Latin America”.
She said that involvement in this type of seminar was always encouraging as it was a reminder of the bigger picture and, “how we can work to promote the Falklands in conjunction with Chile and other neighboring countries whose product all appeals to our main markets.”
She said there had been a lot of interest in the Falklands with many good contacts for potential new business in the coming seasons, as well as the opportunity to renew and update existing relationships with operators.
“With our attendance over the last two years at World Travel Market in London, it is good to keep the momentum of Falklands promotion going,” Miss Jacobsen concluded. (PN)
