The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has reminded the Venezuelan government that if it fails to settle debts with international airlines, the country would be isolated from the world; hence, the association urged Venezuela to reach agreements, and above all, to fulfill such agreements. This will be a boon for the Colombian economy I reckon. Soon it will be easier to bus to Colombia to fly anywhere.

What? not paying debts, not another LATAM country failing to pay debts.
    Must be in the genes.

No, nothing to do with genes.

Pretty racist to say something like that.

It is a fact that all the main SA countries have a problem with paying debts or even acknowledging their indebtedness and it has been that way for a long time.

Why do you keep claiming that is racist when clearly that was not the intent?

Are you ashamed of your race?

You hadn’t used to be like this, has something changed recently, can I help you in any way?

It is becoming quite normal to take the bus or even a taxi (!) all the way to Bogota to get flights. El Dorado Airport is modern, sexy and efficient, although the Colombian national airline is not. Not yet.

I know. I was there in January this year.

    Perhaps Golfcronie meant “cultural”?

@6 Troy, I'd say “cultural” describes it well.....it is easy to see it in their (government) decision making....they don't bother making projections to see how the consequences of their decisions will play out...and when shit happens, they blame everybody but themeselves.

“It is a fact that all the main SA countries have a problem with paying debts or even acknowledging their indebtedness and it has been that way for a long time.”

Two South American countries are having problems and I wouldn't consider them “main”.

“Why do you keep claiming that is racist when clearly that was not the intent?”

Associating a negative trait with genetics is racist. Please don't say otherwise, because even though you are an intolerant person yourself, you can't associate indebtedness to genetics any more than you could intelligence.

“Are you ashamed of your race?”

No, do I need to be racist to be proud of my race? This is a bit of an ad hominem.

“You hadn’t used to be like this, has something changed recently, can I help you in any way?”

No I've always been like this. It just upsets you more now than it used to.

This is a real tragedy. El Universal a leading broadsheet newspaper since the 1930, and a truly independent voice in the print media is being swallowed by the Boligarch State machine

Why can't/won't they pay the airlines? Because they are to busy with the costly 'militarisation' of society and too indebted to China.
“The radicalization and militarization that Nicolás Maduro has carried out during his administration as president of Venezuela has been comprehensive, extending to the domain of foreign policy. This should come as no surprise, with an understanding that the “revolutionary” project is both national and international in scope. This has always been the goal of the Latin-American Bonapartist progressives.

This process of radicalization in Venezuela’s foreign policy crystallized in June and July of this year, as the Madurista regime further strengthened its tries to Russia and China, and without concern for the cost to future generations indebted to these countries. In fact, obligations to China now surpass the country’s international reserves, which stand at US$20.7 billion as of July 18, according to the Central Bank of Venezuela.”

The IATA is warning that Venezuela could become isolated from the world. For some of the really hardcore lunatic Chavistas this is actually good news. Some of these scarily insane people won't be happy until they have turned Venezuela into North Korea. I am not joking or exaggerating. Some these fools worship Mao and/or the Khymer Rouge....
Interestingly Caracas is one of the very few cities in the world that has an official North Korean Embassy.
Maybe they could pay the airlines if they weren't subsidising Cuba to the tune of US$12 billion annually.

Anglotino. Did you know about that Chilean politico, Felipe Cuevas (UDI), who has just been detained in Venezuela?
