Everyone I've ever met who lived in Canberra, including my first girlfriend, couldn't wait to get out of the place. Plus, it's friggin' freezing in winter...

I love Canberra, which celebrated its 100th birthday last year.

But then again I'm studying urban planning and design, so Canberra as a planned 'garden city' in the vein of Howard's vision is of course of interest to me.

But even before I studied this, the whole idea and practicality of a bush capital was interesting. And the Dawn Service as the sun rises over Parliament is truly amazing.

But wouldn't want to live there for any great length of time.

It's easy to top that ranking when you have a 1000km moat around your borders.

Sadly, many Australians don't like Canberra although most of those with the worst opinions about the city have never actually been there. They elect the lowest dregs of their local community to represent them as their local member of parliament, and then when they don't like the inevitable outcomes, blame the city of Canberra for it instead of their own mistakes at the ballot box. Not the fault of the city itself or the people who live there. I agree with Anglotino, it's a beautiful city.

What do I know of Canberra? It is generally closed on Sundays. :) But that is not such a bad thing.

A friend of mine lost his wallet there and it was returned completely intact; nothing taken at all. I rather liked that.

CANBERRA ??!! THE BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD TO LIVE??!! lol LOL lol
If you ever visit Canberra, do visit the ABORIGINAL TENT CITY. THE CITY was established in 1972 by aboriginal activists demanding land rights. There have been many arson attacks against it...BUT IT STILL STANDS!there are now over ten Aboriginal embassies around Australia....

I'm unsure where this “ABORIGINAL TENT CITY” is but actual Australians do know of the Aboriginal Tent EMBASSY.

Amd I do recommend people visit it as I have.

It was registered as a heritage site nearly 20 years ago because of its significance to Australia's heritage and history.

I was intending to retire to Kadina on 'The Leg' of SA and rather like Adelaide.

Nice quiet place with a good China Town section and market.

Have to admit never having been to the others so I cannot comment.

Once again you manage to convince us you have NEVER been to Australia as your complete balls up of the name of the registered heritage site proves.

Personally speaking, I would love to go to Australia.

    Who the hell wouldn't?

It's as far away as you can get, they speak the same language as us and they can take the piss like us.

Love to go, maybe I will and also enjoy the unique wildlife that's there, well that's enough about meeting Aussies! Might get to see some of their fantastic animals too.

    Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand.

Be fair, there's not many places on this planet like that sub continent.

Not many people like it either, you ever been in a pub full of Aussies and Kiwis?
Those people know how to enjoy themselves, just don't upset them!
