Further proof that Chile merely pays lip-service to its belligerent neighbour but continues to forge ever stronger links with the UK.

I predict that Chile will emerge as the No. 1 State in South America whilst Argentina and Brazil go they way of Venezuela.

This is such a win-win for both countries. Chile has much to gain from this and can offer the UK so much in return.

It's so nice to see Chile does not “toe the line” as dictated by argentina and that they know the value of true friendship

    Agreed.

Also, it looks like UK Universities are getting increasingly competetive. (re: Kent).
The University of Essex has had very strong links with many LatAm Universities for many years. I should know, I was Head Staff-Student Liason Officer for the Dept. of Latin American Studies at Essex Uni, re-elected un-opposed for 3 consecutive years.

... and paulie-crapon calls me an isleteer who knows nothing of LatAm...
    arf! arf!

Many posters like to point out Thatcher's relationship with Pinochet but a quick to forget that the UK was happy to provide asylum for many families fleeing his regime in the 1970s. One of which are personal friends of mine and now lead happy, productive, taxpaying lives in Norwich. Their offspring are fully integrated.
Which just goes to show the UK is a friend of the Chileans and not just of the political stripe of any current, (or past), administration.

    Most Chileans loathe Argentines.
