Russian flagged fishing vessel Oleg Naydenov was found by a remotely operated vehicle 15 miles south of Gran Canaria, at a depth of 2,700 meters, Minister of Development Ana Pastor Julian informed. Disclaimer & comment rulesAt what point did the Spanish Authorities realise that 500 tons of fuel will leak into the Ocean. Even when sunk it will eventually give up its fuel, rust will rupture the tanks never mind the water pressure at those depths. What was wrong with putting the fire out and then taking off the fuel, is it not possible?

500 tonnes of 'oil' doesn't sound much for a trawler that size. 'Oleg Naydenov' is not listed in the known vessels on Marine Traffic so I cannot easily check her specifications.
