Paraguay is treading the line between agreeing with Brazil without irritating Argentina too much. They know Argentina will do anything they can to hinder Paraguay if they don't behave like an obedient servant.

I agree. Paraguay has been given a raw deal lately, including the illegal inclusion of Venezuela into Mercosur. Chile has given Paraguay a free port on the Pacific coast which will help the country to eventually develop it's own trade strategy for Asia.

Am surprised that the eternal ignorANUS brasshole hasn't already appeared on here, saying that Brazil would never disobey rule 32/2000... accompanied by some stupid remark such as “down with western”, or that “the ruling class and the US 'can soaking the beard' that we'll soon catch you” (as per his # 3 under the headline starting “Brazil determined...”), which translated into English means basically 'you can wait but we'll get you'....how bloody infantile ; Time will show that what he believes in has nothing to do with reality, so one word of advice to the idiot : keep on dreaming...

Well said, Snr Cartes. Of there should be a single speed. Reverse. But you can't have more trade agreements with other countries until mercosur, i.e. argieland, says you can. Can't have you achieving a better economy. Who started mercosur? That would be argieland and Brazil. Two countries now failing. And they thought they'd have some 'little' countries to make it look 'inclusive'. Somewhat like the EU, it has little 'mechanisms' to ensure that the 'little' countries can be kept in line. How convenient that Paraguay had to be suspended while it was clear that Venezuela would not get in whilst Chavez was in control because of Paraguayan objections. Now that Brazil has, temporarily, changed tack, maybe it's time to get argieland suspended. After all, it's holding back the entire bloc for its own purposes. Because it can't get into the 21st century. But you stop thinking that mercosur is a bloc. Supposedly with common purposes. Argieland only has one purpose. Itself. It isn't even a laudable purpose aimed at improving the lot of the argie people. Its purpose is to serve up massive amounts of cash that can be stolen by the likes of Kirchner.

But don't worry, most EU countries don't want anything you have. There's 28 members in the EU. Mercosur has 5. Guess where the power will be. And the Europeans are much better at these political power games.

Paraguay has to tread a delicate line as the main route for exports is by barge traffic down the River Parana which Argentina could easily close to them on trumped up “technical” reasons. They have already reduced the permitted size of barge convoys from Paraguay to Nueva Palmira in Uruguay on such grounds as a latent threat
