Any UK aid to Ecuador should reflect Assange Embassy standoff costs.
Personally I would withhold all aid from this Country.

giving the government greater leeway to mobilize financial resources in the event of an eruption.
In other words a great opportunity for Correa to steal some more funds!

Whoopee. How much assistance for Cotopaxi to wipe Ecuador away? Shouldn't we assist?

Doesn't really need to erupt , just an explosion big enough to hurl a 1,000 ton rock on to the Presidential Palace. Then, after a job well done, it could go dormant again.

It's doing well because they dont use their own currency.
Argentina should look to them as an example.

@4 Having lived and worked in Ecuador for many years I cannot recommend it as a retirement destination. Too much corruption and xenophobia.

@4. Ah diddums. Still “klinging on” is it? If you aim a revolver at your arse you may get it to drop off.
In the meantime, why would I travel all the way to Ecuador? I've seen spain. How would Ecuador be different? Let's see. Conquer the Inca. Execute the sovereign emperor. By garotte.

Is Ecuador a great retirement country because the elderly are unlikely to oppose Correa's dictatorship? After all, the elderly know about the likely effects of baton strikes on their fragile bones. How about the dismissal of constitutional rights? How about the prosecutions for protests and the eight-year prison sentences? Seems Ecuador takes a lead from argieland. 2008 and Correa announced he would not pay $30.6 million of interest on a $510 million loan. Another latam country refusing to pay its debts. Stick Ecuador where it'll give you a stretching thrill. Might help you get rid of some of those “kling-ons”. Clean your piles daily!
