The UN's highest court on Thursday agreed to take up a century-old dispute between Chile and Bolivia, saying it could rule in the case as La Paz seeks to regain access to the Pacific. The Hague-based International Court of Justice (ICJ), which oversees disputes between countries, said it “has jurisdiction... to entertain the application filed by Bolivia.” Read full article

The only reason the Cowpat says “We are a peaceful people” is because he does not have the armed strength nor the balls to take Chile on.

His constant whining is for home consumption and the ICJ statement must be a real surprise and one he is not going to give up easily.

    Fuck him.

So the ICJ will rule on whether Chile should simply negotiate?

Sorta weird because forcing someone to negotiate doesn't mean they will agree.

Reminds me of Argentina that believes negotiate automatically means acceptance of all their demands.

I hope Evo realizes that he has been played.

As time will show the ICJ has no jurisdiction in the sovereignty dispute. Our borders were defined by treaty before the ICJ existed. Our decision to seek an exception forced Bolivia to cut back their demand. As a result they have won a ruling that allows them to spend the next 1 or 2 years in litigation attempting to force us in to dialogue, which IF achieved will result in nothing.

I say “IF” because we have overwhelming evidence of previous dialogue, which has often resulted in Bolivia walking away.

But I am disappointed in the ICJ. This ruling is damaging for the ICJ as it trivializes the function of the UN's highest court. They have allowed themselves to be used for political purposes by Evo. Bolivia should be fined for wasting court time.

The only winners here were the lawyers. The next stage will take more than a year and the end result will be that the border does not move a millimetre. Another generation of Bolivians will grow up thinking they are victims of the world that is against them ... but simultaneously the whole world supports their cause.

”Bolivia wants the ICJ to order Santiago to negotiate “in good faith”

????? WTF does that mean? How can you 'order' somebody to 'negotiate in good faith'

Skip, I suspect you're correct that they interpret the word 'negotiate' as 'surrender'

“Reminds me of Argentina that believes negotiate automatically means acceptance of all their demands.”

Yes-Cowpat has been egged on by CFK.

Like Argentina-'we've challenged this so therefore have a case'.

So Argentina wants 'negotiations' with its neighbour, the Falkland Islands.
And Bolivia wants 'negotiations' with its neighbour, Chile.
And Venezuela wants 'negotiations' with its neighbour, Guyana.

What is going on in South America?

Where's the brotherhood that I hear of so often?

Up to WWI Austria had the world's 7th largest navy. Without a sea outlet it is today a most prosperous, advanced, and civilized country.
Bolivia's claim is typical of a failed-state- nothing more.

Interesting early posts, especially @3 Condorito . I welcome more discussion about this important issue.

However, @5 Stevie, the bed-wetting Cunt, can fuck the hell off, the useless twat.

    @ 9 ilsen

Now, my friend, we both have had experience with persons who have been near to full breakdown and we need to recognise that Breakdowns R Us is WAY beyond that.

Now may I suggest that you be a little more considerate and accurate in your posts? Twats are useful, I suggest he's a bloody twat and of no fucking use at all!

    Glad to have helped. :o)
