Brazil's annual inflation just below 10%, the highest in 12 years
Brazil's annual inflation rate accelerated in October to just below 10%, the highest reading in almost 12 years, after sharp fuel and food price hikes. Consumer prices, as measured by the benchmark IPCA index, rose 9.93% in 12 months through October, up from 9.49% in September, statistics agency IBGE said in a release. In the first ten months of the year inflation reached 8.52%

Major exhibition of the Antarctic legacy of Sir Ernest Shackleton and Frank Hurley at the RGS
A major new exhibition on Shackleton’s Endurance Expedition will open at the Royal Geographical Society (RGS), London, on 21 November, with an off-shoot exhibition coming to South Georgia early in 2016. The exhibitions are inspired by the glass plate negatives taken by Endurance expedition photographer Frank Hurley, according to the latest edition of the South Georgia Newsletter

North of Chile rattles with a series of tremors which were felt in Argentina
North of Chile has been rocked by a series of tremors during early Saturday and most of Sunday, but no injuries or damage has been reported, the University of Chile's Seismology Institute said. The earthquake shook an estimated 20 cities, Arica, Cuya, Pocon Chile, Camina, Mamiña and Pisagua, the national emergency management office said.

Border conflict erupts between Chile and Peru over a 10 acre wedge of land
The fragile relations between neighboring Chile and Peru appeared to unwind further Saturday, after Peruvian President Ollanta Humala officially recognized an administrative district in a disputed border area. The Chilean government promptly sent a protest note to Peru “strongly” rejecting the law because it concerns “unquestionably” Chilean territory.

Macri leads by eight points, but one in ten voters remains undecided, says poll
With two weeks to Argentina's presidential runoff on 22 November and to decide who will succeed Cristina Fernandez on 10 December, opposition candidate Mauricio Macri has a several points lead over the incumbent Daniel Scioli, although there still is a significant percentage of undecided voters, according to a public opinion poll released on Sunday.

Cristina Fernandez cancels trip to G20 summit and joins Scioli's presidential campaign
Argentina president Cristina Fernandez has suspended her attendance to the G20 summit in Turkey to campaign for the incumbent presidential candidate, Daniel Scioli, ahead of the 22 November runoff, when he confronts opposition hopeful Mauricio Macri, the big surprise of the electoral dispute.
