By Graham Bound, London - Mauricio Macri: I roll the syllables of that rather pleasantly alliterative name over my tongue as I draw him into one of my columns for the first time. Read full article

Friendship is definitely possible and a worthy goal.

But Kirchnerism has poisoned the well I think. Trusting Macri would be possible but there is always a future potential Cristina just waiting to be elected and needing a convenient scapegoat.

Argentina needs to slowly normalise itself and accept that the Falklands will never be part of their country.

Once that happens, watch how great the friendship becomes.

Friendship is not desired by the Argentines and Americans as long as you fail to return the islands.

Do you think that we'll be sitting watching the development of all English interests in our heels in South Atlantic?

    You are wrong?

While the English pirates are on our land, they will always be our mortal enemies!

We do not accept you here. And we will block you, your company and your products.

    GO HOME SAXON !

With or without Macri America is one, one cause, one fight!

Let's hope that all the local politicians drag their feet with all Argentinian negotiations and stand strong against any foreign office 'pressure'. Stand strong and independent and refuse all Argentine 'gifts'.

As long as you have argentine politicians that think the Falkland's are argentine, and believe the friendly Trojan horse effect,

we would all be fools to enter into talks, friendly or not,
Argentina started this crap, Argentina imposed restrictions , blockades , threats against oil firms and shipping firms, so macri should remover the lot and say sorry,

its a start-but a start I think he will not make,
he will hope that David will forget the past and be mates again,

money and profits speak big volumes.

    just my humble opinion.

“Friendship is not desired by the Argentines and Americans as long as you fail to return the islands.”

They were Britain's and Spain's before Argentina existed .

Spain dropped their claim in 1863 by visiting Stanley and saluting the Union Jack.

So they were never Argentina's to begin with and you cannot prove otherwise.

    Concentrate on saving your rainforest.

It is your greatest asset and you are destroying it to have errrrrrr cattle-what's so special about cattle versus the treasures you are burning down that could earn you a lot of money in the future if you weren't destroying it?

“ While the English pirates are on our land, they will always be our mortal enemies”

So the servicemen in the British forces that are Scottish, Welsh. Irish, and Nepalese to name a few, aren't your enemies then?

“We do not accept you here. And we will block you, your company and your products.”

So you are not after all manufacturing the Saab Grippen which was heavily developed by BRITISH Aerospace, and which contains many British components?

OK-borrow some bows and arrows off the native people you are murdering, you European has been.

@1 “Argentina needs to slowly normalise itself and accept that the Falklands will never be part of their country.”

That will never happen. While Macri might desire genuine friendship, that is not the desire of the vast majority of people in Argentina. I think the kelpers might be happy with the better diplomacy though.

What are your views on French Guiana?

Officially called Guiana (French: Guyane), is an overseas department and region of France, on the north Atlantic coast of South America. It borders Brazil to the east and south, and Suriname to the west. I. By land area, it is the largest region of France.

    Are these French Pirates?
    Do tell us.

J.R.R. Tolkien — 'Ask not the elves for advice, because they will tell you both 'yes' and 'no'.'

This article doesn't actually seem to say anything. Just ifs, buts and maybees.

The reality is that Macri will have quite enough trouble just surviving to see out a full 4 year term. The last thing he needs is to antagonise the fervent Malvanistas amongst the Argentine population.

So Macri will - at best - employ less rhetoric. But that'll be our lot.

A clever president could cause the Islanders some problems. A clever President with time and room to manoeuvre. Macri has neither.

A little peace and quiet during whatever term he manages would not be unwelcome.

    @12 George

“and legal gob of 13 years,”

The best you could claim is the first formal claim was made by the United Provinces in 1829 by Vernet-who was appointed by an illegal UP government ( as it had assassinated the previous UP president), bearing in mind Vernet asked the British consulate in BA permission to be in the Falklands once he was aware of the British claim.

Britain had no problem with the civilian settlement.

There is opinion that the UP claim was only serious when Mestivier was sent in 1832 but he didn't last long because his 'loyal' men killed him and his successor and troops left three months later.

About 10 of which were tried by the B.A. gov for murder and shot by firing squad.
“WE DONT WANT TO BE FRIENDS OF THE IMPEIALIST DELUDE CULTUR”£

Fine, looks like China is colonializing your country instead.

“PETE BOG: you wrong boy, the 1690 claiming with no settlement isn't valid at all”

Which means Jewitt's claim in 1820 wasn't valid either-in any case he later fought for the Brazilian Navy against your side.

“ 1765 settlement was only whats today port Stanley ”

Try using your second brain cell.

Stanley was established in 1845 and the British settled at Port Egmont in 1765.

You don't even know ANYTHING about the geography of the country you claim! -Best of luck when you paddle in your war canoe, I doubt you will have a clue where you are on the Islands when you land!

“French accepted and confflrimed spoaniars ownerships”

Of Port Louis-yes, by treaty after 1770 there was shared sovereignty, and guess what ? Spain's navy in 1863 sailed into Stanley harbour and saluted the Union Jack. Clearly they had dropped their claim on the Falklands.

The British have never dropped theirs since 1690, so it has remained.

“remind you the brit murdering of nort americans, Australians, Africans, many in india ”

    What recently?

Brazilians are STILL ejecting natives from their homes-IN THIS CENTURY.

    I think the post @12
is enough evidence of Why the Argentines should never control the Falkland Islands...
These people are simply not Fit for Purpose to assume control of an obviously far more sophisticated culture, especially since they have no legal entitlement what-so-ever.

    Deluded Fools.
