New Prime Minister Theresa May has made Boris Johnson, the former London mayor who led the Brexit campaign, foreign secretary in her new government. He replaces Philip Hammond, who becomes chancellor and ex-Energy Secretary Amber Rudd is home secretary and Euro skeptic David Davis is the Brexit secretary. Ex-chancellor George Osborne was not included apparently because his “brand” was seen as “too tarnished”. Read full article

Very happy about Boris, feel more settled about this new government now with him at the top and the brexiteers in charge of brexit.

I do hope that this initial surprisingly good choice of senior cabinet ministers (Hammond excepted) continues and that real progress to dump the EU is made in the next few months.

David Davis's appointment was an inspired one.

Good to see Gove booted out. No one trusts him.

@1 Indeed but behind the buffoonery is a sharp mind. Besides, he led the Leave campaign so he should be right out front selling it to the world.

He has managed to insult quite a few foreign leaders so I hope he has matured a bit. Nobody doubts his intelligence but his mouth can cause trouble.
He needs to learn diplomacy. Maybe the Foreign Office mandarins can curb his excesses. We will be going out into the world looking for favours. A wrong word can slam doors in our face.

@5 All true. I think in the past he has done it deliberately for publicity.

Still, if Trump is elected POTUS no one will notice any gaffs from BoJo because Trump will trump them all.

If Hilary Clinton gets elected, which at the moment seems likely then three of the worlds major economies:-

    UK Theresa May (Prime Minister)
    USA Hilary Clinton (President)
    Germany Angela Merkel (Chancellor)

will be run by women - brilliant (female Pope next)

My old granny (now long gone) used to say if the world was run by women there would have been no need to invent God because the world would already be heaven.

@5. Oh dear, how many millions, or even billions, of people have cursed and insulted those “few foreign leaders”? And you're concerned about just one more? The best advice I could give him would be to ignore those “Foreign Office mandarins”. They don't “work” for Britain. It's not called the “Foreign” Office for nothing. The usual advice is to give the “foreigners” whatever they want in the hope that they'll be “grateful”. Of course they never are. The Foreign Office doesn't even baulk at breaking the law.

The “conqueror ”school of diplomacy !
    Full Definition of diplomacy

: the art and practice of conducting negotiations between nations

: skill in handling affairs without arousing hostility : tact

Yes, that certainly fits Boris. If the year was 1850 then he would be the ideal man BUT it is 2016. We need favours from potential trading partners and allies and are not in a strong position. Rubbing people the wrong way does not work.
We no longer can send a gunboat anywhere and expect results to out advantage.

“you're concerned about just one more”

    A good start from Theresa.

I am liking the way things are shaping up. Brexit presents so many opportunities out there in the world for us. Let's get on with it.

Thank goodness there were enough of us “uneducated”, “have nots” to choose the most intelligent path for our country.

I hope we can convince our Scottish friends to shelve a 2nd referendum for a while and step out in to the world again with us. We always have done better when they are with us.
