I suspect they were Philippinos or some other cheap labour used in automated engine rooms nowadays.

@ 4 I know of two cases, straight off the top of my head, involving british ships -manned from top to bottom with british people - that ended up with flooded engine rooms...totally flooded- after british engineer peoples had unbolted the main seawater intakes downstream from the seavalve without first closing the valve. ( one we all know about in Estrecho de Magallanes not that long ago)... and a 50,000 ton BP tanker in Kwinana back when BP was British.

You don't need to be cheap to be stupid...

Re the dirty rg diesel... in Ushuaia you have to drive some way out of town to get good diesel.... they have bloody great filtering systems the size of 40 gallon drums right next to the pumps.... and that's the road diesel...

“You don't need to be cheap to be stupid...”

You only have to look at politicians and those 'advising them' to know the veracity of that statement.

One thing I am fairly confident off though, it wouldn't be manned by Frogs!
