My comment doesn't address this story directly, yet in so far as the future of the Islands economy and its Integration to its neighbors, which is a prime issue for the Falklands, it does relate to it.
Countries with a 2000 civilian population don't have the harbour activities, or the size oil and fishing industry, nor the military infrustructure the Falklands “represent” as a would be country. Whole countries build their country through their people and the many layers of achievements that lay down the ground work for other achivements that will be reached later. Their people study the necessary profession and extract the necessary materials right there at home.
Britain -makes- the Falklands and it's people life quality possible, and -makes- them helpless at the same time. Without Britain or Argentina, the Falklands would have been an obscure and fogoten place. Argentina like all the other countries in the Americas fought bloody wars and suffered back stabbing revolutions to get to where they are now. Yet Falklanders expect to have the same voice, the same will and sovereign affirmation as any other nation, among nations that had to wait centuries in some cases, to have things you take for granted today. They can't even build a dike on their own. Falklanders will have to go through the key hole, of seeing why they were wrong about Argentina, just to be able to see the absent respect with the honor and equality of understanding every country is innately deserving of. What you will discover may not be to your liking, but ... you can always stay a colony for ever and continue living in denial.
Argentine's don't deserve the treatment they have been getting, purely fueled by ethnic bigotry any more than the German's born forty years ago deserved being taunted all their lives by being called “nazis”. Tell me when, has Argentina ever stated or done anything militaristic against the Falklands? The Junta presented G.Britain with an opportunity it could not pass up

    Cobblers.
Beware politicians inside their Trojan horses.

The Falkland's are nothing what so ever to do with a thieving country that just wants to rule them and steal all the minerals and other treasure's they have.

Patrick, what benefits has Argentina got to bring to the negociation table? I think you will find they ( THE FALKLANDERS ) are doing fine on their own, so why change anything. Just look at their respective GOP statistics and ALL will be revealed

“My comment doesn't address this story directly...”

-- Obviamente. La desviación te hace un trol.

“The Junta presented G.Britain with an opportunity it could not pass up”

-- To deservedly kick its little arse, and to bless Argentistan with the opportunity to restore a democratic government here. Argentistan indeed owes much to the UK for its role in that return to democracy, albeit a corrupt and incompetent democracy. It's time that Patricio and argentos everywhere recognised their enormous debt to the UK, and constructed pyramids in honour of their many British blessings .

Falklands too small for you, Patricio? Why not bitch about Singapore being too small? Only 720 km2. Of course its education, health care, life expectancy, economy, quality of life, lack of motochorros and ñoquismo, modern infrastructure, relative lack of corruption, and so many other features are considerably better than Big Argentistan. More than four times the per-capita PIB of Big Argentistan. But the little island is just.... too small, eh? Sometimes good stuff comes in small packages, Patricio - ¿viste?
