ARA Libertad docks in Southampton: Open Day on Friday and Saturday

Argentina´s navy frigate and tall ship ARA Libertad dropped anchor in Southampton on Wednesday as part of 46th midshipman promotion world tour which left Buenos Aires last March. Ambassador Carlos Sersale di Cerisano received the flagship of the Argentine Navy, while the whole operation was transmitted live from the embassy in London.

Rajoy questioned on corruption: first time a Spanish serving prime minister appears in court

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has told the country’s National Court he did not know anything about the ruling Partido Popular’s accounting practices when a corrupt scheme allegedly helped fund it. A member of the Legislative Assembly has been named as the Falkland Islands’ latest Chevening scholar. Michael Poole MLA will head to the London School of Economics (LSE) to study for an MSc in Public Policy & Administration after the current Assembly completes its term in late September.

Brazilian landless peasants invade soybean plantation owned by Agriculture minister

Hundreds of landless farmers in Brazil have invaded and occupied a soybean plantation owned by a company belonging to Agriculture Minister Blairo Maggi. The takeover by some 500 people was organized by the Landless Rural Workers' Movement, which encourages the seizure of farmland it deems unproductive as a tactic to pressure the government.
