Argentina is disputing with Chile South America’s top producer of the mineral lithium, a key ingredient for the production of electric cars and its rechargeable batteries allowing them to retain energy far longer, and as a consequence its price has soared more than 30% to a record US$ 12.000 a ton this year.

Having joined Batelco as a trainee graduate in 1994, Al Hashemi held several key roles in Batelco’s various divisions before being appointed as CEO of Batelco Bahrain in August 2015, said a statement from Batelco.

Russia gives Venezuela a hand and restructures US$ 3.15bn debt over a 10-year period

Russia and Venezuela signed a debt restructuring deal on Wednesday allowing Caracas to make “minimal” payments to Moscow in the next six years to help it meet obligations to other creditors, the Russian Finance Ministry said. Under the deal, Venezuela will pay Russia back a total of US$ 3.15 billion over a 10-year period, the ministry said.

Pope will underline the plight of indigenous peoples during his coming visit to Chile and Peru

During his visit to Chile and Peru, Pope Francis will honor the country’s religious roots and underline the plight of indigenous men and women. The Vatican said the pope will be in Chile Jan. 15-18, visiting the cities of Santiago, Temuco and Iquique. He then will fly to Peru and, from Jan. 18-21, he will visit Lima, Puerto Maldonado and Trujillo.

A painting of Christ by Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci has sold for US$ 450 million at auction in New York, obliterating previous records. The 500-year-old oil painting depicting Christ holding a crystal orb, called Salvator Mundi — or Saviour of the World — is one of fewer than 20 paintings by Leonardo da Vinci known to exist.

Next Rector of the Falklands is ex former British Army legal chief, expert in human rights

The southern-most cathedral in the Anglican Communion, Christ Church Cathedral at Stanley in the Falkland Islands, is to get a new rector. And the priest chosen to head up the Anglican Church on the Islands is the Revd Nicholas Mercer, who – as Lt Col Nicholas Mercer – was the chief legal officer for the British Army during the 2003 Iraq war.
