Brexit Lords' debate: Labour has tabled eight amendments

The House of Lords are to begin debating the bill paving the way for the start of Brexit. MPs agreed the proposed law unchanged, authorizing Theresa May to inform the EU of the UK's intention to leave. But the government does not have a majority in the House of Lords and eight amendments have been tabled by Labor's front bench.

Summer sea ice in Antarctica is the lowest on record

This year the extent of summer sea ice in the Antarctic is the lowest on record. The Antarctic sea ice minimum marks the day – typically towards end of February – when sea ice reaches its smallest extent at the end of the summer melt season, before expanding again as the winter sets in. This year, sea ice extent contracted to 2.28m sq km on 13 February, according to data from the US National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC).

New 130 meters long krill fishing vessel to operate in Antarctica

Aker Bio Marine has signed a contract with Vard shipyard to design and construct a modern krill fishing vessel that will operate in the Antarctic. The ship, which is 130m-long, 23m-wide, will be also equipped with environmentally friendly technologies. The hull of the vessel will be built by Vard's Tulcea, Romania, shipyard.

EFTA/Mercosur talks confirmed to begin next June in Buenos Aires

The first round of formal trade negotiations between Mercosur and EFTA, European Free Trade Association, is scheduled to take place in Buenos Aires next June according to information from Brussels where there was a preliminary encounter between the two sides. “It will be in June, and talks will be at chief negotiators level”, confirmed EFTA and Mercosur sources.

Spain's Rajoy insists with co-sovereignty for Gibraltar

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has defended his government’s co-sovereignty proposal for Gibraltar and reiterated that Spain will use Brexit to push its sovereignty aspirations over the Rock. Tony Blair has called on pro-Europeans to form a new cross-party movement to persuade the public they were wrong to vote to leave the EU. In an impassioned speech, the former prime minister said “progressives” should make it their “mission” to reverse the outcome of the referendum last June.
