Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable has defended plans to use his party’s strength in the House of Lords to fight Brexit, even though he views the unelected chamber as a “bad system” that he did not want to be a member of. Sir Vince said the Lords had limited political impact, but the upper house should be used to check an “abuse of powers” by the Government. Read full article

The question is why is this piece appearing in Mercopenguin, a British government propaganda organ supposedly devoted to America, South America and the “South Atlantic”?

@Tamya. There's more than one reason. For a start, if you were to hover your cursor over the heading “Regions”, you would see that Mercopress has one called “International”. This enables it to carry “news” from all over the world. It's relevant for South Americans to know what is going on elsewhere. Then there's the fact that the United Kingdom has considerable “influence” in the area adjoining the South Atlantic. It may help South Americans to realise that, in a proper democratic society, even fools and those with incipient senile dementia can get their remarks reported. What South Americans can take from this news article is that the British people generally feel completely the opposite to what “Sir Vince Cable” says. Isn't it worth knowing how the people of a country able and willing to send major armed forces to a particular area if someone gets “difficult” with a territory for which they take responsibility are likely to respond? Finally, we don't do “propaganda”. That's something that we leave to the likes of South American dictators. We just let “news” people report what they like. And people like you lap up articles with titles like “Argentina recalls when Malvinas Islands were ”illegally“ occupied by British forces”. That's “propaganda”. And there's an easy test. Ask yourself a question. “Why hasn't argieland taken its ”claim“ to the International Court of Justice?” Why does argieland always lose the “argument”? Because argieland has nothing and it knows it. It just goes through the ineffective motions from time to time to keep people like you, badly educated for years, quiet. Nothing has really changed since the days of Peron. Who, after all, was encouraged by Hitler. Who just wanted Britain to have another enemy. He just didn't realise how fixated argies were, and are, on possessions and money.
