The Organization of American States (OAS) and the government of Paraguay signed an agreement to observe the general and departmental elections of April 22, in a ceremony that took place at OAS headquarters in Washington DC.

“The Paraguayan people are returning to the polls, it is our seventh general election since the beginning of this democratic process. The OAS was present at all of them and luckily will be once again,” said the Paraguayan diplomat.

For his part, the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, underlined the contribution of the electoral observation missions to the democratic institutions of the region.

“The objective of all electoral observation missions is to contribute to the strengthening of electoral processes in the hemisphere, promoting integrity, impartiality, transparency and credibility,” said Almagro.

The former President of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla, will be the Chief of Mission.
