Brazil's president-elect Jair Bolsonaro says he wants the country's best-known anti-corruption judge to be justice minister or to serve on the Supreme Court. Sergio Moro has been the driving force behind an anti-corruption probe known as Operation Car Wash. Read full article

Oct 30th, 2018 - 02:22 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The news just showed a mini-documentary about rampant Brazilian deforestation and persecution of the native inhabitants, ...somehow linking this is to blame of Bolsonaro's future plans. The problem is that the problem openly existed during the current and previous ruling Brazilian governments. Yet, before Bolsonaro takes place the news are blaming him for an ecological disaster. Ironic!
Lol. Commie bastards have inflicted more damage on the earth in the last hundred years than the capitalists.

Oct 30th, 2018 - 09:38 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I suppose that attitude explains why there is so much corruption in Brazil.
He aimed to open up protected land to road and infrastructure projects
Yes, deforestation has always been a problem, but does that sound like it is going to benefit the forest?

Oct 30th, 2018 - 10:57 pm - Link - Report abuse 0No, I think that Bolsonaro is no better friend to the forest than the previous government were. More forest land will be developed at at least the same rate during the time of Lula, Dilma and Temer.
What will really alarm many Europeans is that I imagine Bolsaro will propose to withdraw from the Paris Accord Treaty.
REF: top anti-corruption judge as his Justice minister:
Oct 31st, 2018 - 12:38 am - Link - Report abuse +1Fantastic strategy! Better to have The Judge on his payroll; before mass corruption charges are spread around his team!
But the Workers' Party, led by Mr. Bolsonaro's election rival Fernando Haddad, remains the largest party with 56 seats.
Oct 31st, 2018 - 02:32 am - Link - Report abuse 0How does that work for passing legislation when the opposition has more seats...Party Alliances...?
Time for Judge Moro to reap the fruits of a work well done!
Oct 31st, 2018 - 04:21 am - Link - Report abuse -1Hey, for Jair Bolsonaro to reward the hard-working judge is only fair. After all, without Moro's powerful conviction Bolsonaro may not be president elect today.
And as Skull noted, for the president is better to have the judge on his payroll...just in case!

Isn't that where the Military-Connection comes in?
@Chicureo
Oct 31st, 2018 - 11:47 am - Link - Report abuse 0That would be very unfortunate, as in some ways developing countries are the most important members, and Brazil is a large and likely influential one. And the more countries leave, the less incentive there is for the others to stay in, leading to a classic tragedy of the commons.
@Voice
Party alliances and outright bribery. That's what the Mensalão scandal was, the party in power buying the votes of Congress members so they could pass legislation.
